What's the point of the apiary?

I mean, getting honey without having to chop stumps is nice and all, but stumps are everywhere and the apiary is so slow to produce. Furthermore, the apiary is unlocked so late and accesories even later. In my current game, I had plenty of honey and antibiotics by the time I could construct the apiary. I still put one up but I have little incentive to pay attention to it.

If the apiary, with accesories, came earlier in the game, and honey was harder to get from stumps, it would make more sense.
I like the idea of the apiary, but something doesn’t seem right. It kind of makes herbal and regular antibiotics redundant. Personally I would just get rid of antibiotics all together. That would make the apiary much more valuable.

They can stay! I suggest to buff % of herbal and non herbal antibiotics in compensation! I think at least 25% for herbal and 50% for antibiotics would be great because their current % is a joke

How can they make herbals and regular antibiotics redundant when you can produce herbal antibiotics long before getting honey from the apiary. And you need 5 honey aka 10 days of production from a single apiary to have the same potency as an antibiotic!

I think the apiary is a nice alternative. Either you produce antibiotics and ignore the apiary. Then you have the choice to take it with you always or just store it in your base (to save inventory clutter) and cure the now somewhat progressed infection with it

Or you build apiaries as early as possible and just have it as food to take with you doubling as food AND antibiotic in late game, saving an inventory slot for any antibiotics and curing an infection immediately.

The book is easier to find than 5 wax. Wax isn't for sale and can only be obtained in two places: from stumps with bees and from the beekeeper's bag. I don't know of any other places to get it.
You do understand RNG, right? Sometimes you find the book early in the game and sometimes late in the game. The books are pretty much random in any location where you can get them. You can't focus on getting that specific book. All you can do is loot books and magazines over and over in hopes of getting it. On the other hand, the wax can be targeted by just breaking stumps. Stumps are 20% to get honey. Wax has a percentage if you get honey, though I don't know what it is. Let's say it's 20%. That means roughly 4% chance to get wax from a stump on average. So 25 stumps per wax on average. That's a lot, but that's just the average. So far, I'm getting wax more often than that, which may mean the percentage is higher. Perhaps 50% chance if there's honey, which would make it 10% chance on average per stump, so an average of 10 stumps to get wax. If you know the exact chance of wax if there's honey, then you can calculate the actual numbers. I also think you can get more than one per stump, which improves things more.

But in any case, it's not hard to do if you want to target the wax. Considering you also need honey, you're likely to have enough wax for an apiary before you can build an apiary just from normal gameplay without specifically trying to get the wax. With RNG, you might not get the book until late game, but it's unlikely that you won't get enough wax for an apiary. Of course, you can get lucky and find the book on day 1. You can also get lucky and get the 5 wax on day 1 from breaking 5 stumps. The book might occasionally be for sale, though I don't remember ever seeing that book for sale and I wouldn't count on it being for sale.

I do think that 5 wax is probably a bit high and it would be better to reduce that to 1-2 or so. Or make the amount required be based on your LotL skill. 5 with no points and working down to 1 with max points or something like that.

Not really. It is very cheap to make regular antibiotics. And if you have a farm, herbal antibiotics aren't bad either. You can easily make a ton of those quickly without having to wait on the very slow apiaries. Besides, it is good to have options for how you do things. For those who don't want to deal with apiaries, they can make antibiotics and break stumps and trees. For those who don't want to make antibiotics and just want a steady stream of honey without much of any effort, they can use apiaries. Each are valid alternatives and they should all remain in the game.

Yes, they should stay in the game, but they shouldn't be buffed. Herbal antibiotics and regular antibiotics are cheap and easy to make. There's no reason they need buffed. You shouldn't even be letting your infection rates get above 25% anyhow. And if you do, taking 2 antibiotics is hardly a problem. Sham sandwiches are everywhere for making regular antibiotics. You can farm stuff for the herbal antibiotics easily. So what if it take a couple of them to cure you?

I was getting honey from the Apiary way before being able to make herbals. I suppose it depends on what you perk into. I just think one system, should ultimately help the more advanced system. Perhaps make honey an ingredient in antibiotics. It would also make more sense.

Someone needs to mod in Winnie the Pooh who occasionally tries to break into your apiary to steal your honey 😋
Well, I did have a zombie bear hanging out in my backyard in the forest in my current game. I'm about a kilometer from the wasteland, so not sure how it got to my base. But I think that was before the apiary was placed in the backyard. Heh.

Figure they can add more recipes using it or some form of trader/dealer who takes honey as payment instead of dukes.

It's definitely a luxury item as it currently stands. You'll likely have a pile of food made by the time the honey using recipes become a thing. Depends on the scenario I suppose.
