World generation idea's

I think the world generation should be actually more similar like Nitrogen or KingGen.

Even when we would get a world generator that is not ingame, also a separate program you need to download first, it would be surely a great way to make maps that are exactly like you want them.
Because honestly, the maps i made with the map generator from 2.4 kinda all look the same.

I recoiled at the first line. Those were great at the time, but cities were horrible by comparison to the current RWG. There was just no POI integration. Plus, maps still all kinda all looked the same. KingGen in particular couldn't ever get the Wilderness to make any sense and had big problems with roads and elevation changes.

You might be interested in Teragon. It's Nitrogen/KingGen on steroids, at least when you look at the number of options available.

You might also be interested in a modlet that adds more Tiles to the game. That will change up your next couple of maps until you eventually get used to new patterns that emerge. Variety is a challenge, and was also a challenge with Nitrogen and KingGen.

Well, i only mentioned Nitrogen and KingGen because of the options you have to choose how big the cities, biomes, etc. are.

Of course they are both WAY outdated today, and the new RWG is a lot better, but it would be still nice to have some more options.

And is Teragon up to date? Also using the new world generation?
If yes, i totally have to look it up! (If i can find it... Map generators for 7 days seem to be harder to find that water in the desert...)

Yes, Teragon is still getting active development and it does support all of the current game assets (POIs, Tiles, etc.) and can work with POI modlets if you have them installed. See @Riamus for details. There's likely a discussion for it on these forums.

Be aware, Teragon is more complex than Nitrogen and KingGen. Expect to spend some time getting to know it.

Yes, Teragon is updated and works fine with any version of the game between A20 and 2.5. The original thread from the old forum is here. We unfortunately can't add it to the Mods section here because of how that is set up. The link to Teragon's Discord server is where you can go to download it, as well as where you can get support using it. That original thread is very old now and I can't update it since it was locked when the forum was changed, but it still gives you examples of what you can do with it even if some of that has changed. As ZZTong said, expect to spend some time learning it as it has a steel learning curve because of all the options available. But you can also just use a default preset and generate a map without learning anything just to try it out.

Yeah thanks for the info about Teragon. Just found it myself shortly after i wrote the message here and already joined the discord.

And its okay when its a bit complicated. It just needs some time to get in, like with any other things. (Blender for example. It first looks like dark magic, but when you get the hang of it, its not THAT difficult to use.)

All i want to have is basicly a HUGE map with some large cities. (Loved playing on 16k maps back in the alpha days!)

Feel free to ask for help if you need it. I'm always on Discord, though I might not respond right away. Others there are also around to help. I've been using it since it was first publicly released and even though I'm writing almost all of the documentation, I still find things that I didn't know. Heh. But once you do get the hang of how things work, it is easy to use. It might take time to tweak things to get exactly what you want, but it's not really difficult once you understand it.
