PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

Is there going to be a yucca battle thong cosmetic anytime soon?
It stills bug me how yucca is in game. Cuz the type of yucca we grow it could be possible to get both fruit and the root. The yucca root is similar at least to me when I tasted it and cooked it had a potato's like texture

This was the old icon. Showing we made the juice of the root, the new one is correct in terms of the juice but we just not eatting the roots?

Still such a cool plant. I love it. Cuz I dont think any other game grows yucca

I mean yes there's always going to be the beyond mad for no reason but tbh I though prebuild is one of them but he really isn't? If he really hated the game i dont think we would have learned to mod and try to make improvements.

And I've been playing for a long time as well and while I disagree with some directions of the game i still play it every day its the only game I play on Xbox. And pc I'll do the same
I would believe that if the videos weren't based off of hatred and ridicule. He's trying to make money and people love to hate. Getting into modding could just be another way to look educated when putting devs on blast. It's all performative to a degree, including the posts made here.

Top 100 game on Steam for years, even during the alpha stages, sold millions of copies and reviews have been positive. Active playerbase has steadily grown over the entire games lifetime according to Steamcharts.

Then you look at the social community around the game, and it's some of the most barbaric, unapologetic malice that i've seen any video game get. Really strange how that works, isn't it? The math doesn't add up. From my perspective, most the open hatred appears to be artificial.

Views baby!

Not really im mean I'll look and see if he said anything about the devs couldn't do it so ill let you know.

And Im aware almost every post made has a bunch a negative 9000 pound neck beard complaining about everything small and gives nothing back in return. If they even play anymore.

And I've watch prebuilt for awhile. And it was progressively getting more negative. Yes i know negatively gets views. But nothing you can really do about that.

I mean it could also be do to more people finding and playing the game.

I really dislike this disingenuous assertion I'm seeing about me being negative FOR views. The biggest creators of this game rarely criticize it, there's no reason to be negative FOR views. They get more than views than me without negativity. Clearly it's not rewarded or necessary in 7dtd in the way that it is for say: Halo or Star Wars.

I'm a hater for the love of the game thank you very much. It's a thinly veiled attempt to undermine my criticism because I get paid to cover the game. I don't see any one accusing the big creators of faking their positivity for views. It's interesting how the only people faking it are the ones you disagree with.

Edit: To add onto that, sort my channel by most popular videos and tell me that "negativity" is what gets views. A brainless assertion by aging forum users with a strenuous understanding of what youtubers actually do. Not to mention it's incredibly insulting to your own community to reduce their interests to mere internet drama when in reality what generates most value and interest in my channel is informational content watched by new players. If anyone is attracted to negativity like moths to a flame it's the people in here. 700 videos created, 50 or so of which could be described as negative about the game. The rest are just tutorials and stuff.

Edit 2: also Adam I'm sorry if you felt like that was all directed at YOU lol. It was just that comment that got me ranting smh.

Maybe not have them disappear after you drink from them but just remove the ability to make them. Once you find a jar it is reusable for entire game. Hopefully you won't be overflowing with them at least until late(r) game. By then you should be set up with everything. Fuel production, ammo production, etc. Jars, drinkable water, teas should be rare enough you are not swimming in them but scattered enough you are not dying constantly from thirst.

Along those lines, I was also going to suggest the ability to dump out liquids and save the jars. Basically, "scrap" drinks to jars, but with different text.

It wouldn't solve the "jar scarcity" problem of course, but if there already is some kind of jar scarcity (like you can't find water in jars in the wild) then it would be an interesting mechanic.

Also - for all the other Americans, happy Thanksgiving!

Negative is sadly what attracts many people to social media and forums. I mean, how many times do you read messages that praises 7 Days to Die? It's almost always negative posts about the game. Sure, some people will reply and defend the game, but still, it's mostly people complaining; which is sad.

Your channel is stuck with having to post content about 7 Days to Die because that's how you got followers, and now you basically have no choice but to continue making content about the game or you might lose viewers as they would move to other channels.
Not so sure how much you care about the game; possibly much more about viewership.

Well I'm sure we'll see when the upcoming update comes out won't we? If the millions and millions think opposite to me they'll see those features that the recent critics of 7dtd have been asking for and they'll silently slink away in disgust leaving 7dtd's player count worse than Blood Moons on a tuesday morning.
Extremely unlikely. People didn't leave when jars were removed completely. They may have started complaining, but others thanked TFP. And the numbers continued their normal up and down based on releases as normal. So it's not likely that adding jars back, even if they are changed, would have a greater impact than removing them entirely for those who want them. It wouldn't be even remotely logical to assume that.

This is absolutely true but...

My point is that surely if there were millions of people who thought OPPOSITE to me, there would SURELY be a huge line of people just dying to try it. Of course I don't think every fan of 7dtd would auto buy it but like...nobody bought it. Particularly, from the thousands of comments I've recieved around Blood Moons specifically, the hardcore 1000 hours+ fanbase. Who should surely be just looking for ways to support a beloved franchise/publisher?

This thread isn't about blood moons anyway but I do think it's a fair reading of the temperature? of the community's attitude at the moment.

Edit: and it's a shame because iLLOGIKA seem like such a good studio
First, the game is still in Early Access and I think a LOT of people who got this game in Early Access don't want anything to do with Early Access considering how things went with this game. Second, that game is very different from this one, so assuming a lot of people who play this game would be interested is a stretch. Third, the graphics on that game are more of a niche style that isn't as popular as other styles and will likely turn away a lot of prospective players before they even look beyond the graphics. Those three alone will drop interest in the game considerably, especially from 7D2D players.

Now, I'm not saying the game will ever do well. It certainly isn't a game I have any interest in and I'm not even paying attention to it after seeing the description of what it would be and some screenshots and gameplay video. It could very easily be a game that never takes off and will fail miserably. On the other hand, once it's out of EA, it might end up getting some good sales and those sales may generate enough interest that it'll do well. No way to know before it happens, though. But how that game does, good or bad, doesn't relate at all to how this game is doing. This game is regularly in the top lists on Steam and has far more daily players than even Amazon's New World MMO that will not longer get updates and yet players who like it say it was doing well... and that's an MMO with fewer average daily players than this game. So how well the game is doing is relative and whether players think it's doing well seems to be based more on how they like the game than actual numbers. After all, you see that here all the time... players regularly saying the game is failing and people are leaving in droves and yet the numbers don't agree with that. But it's what people want to believe.

I've said it before and I'll SAY IT AGAIN...many people have become problem seekers. We (in "developed" lands at least) no longer have the immediate and tangible threats that we've evolved to deal with, yet we still have those combative mechanisms functioning. I remember Liam Neeson bringing up something very similar to that in the movie The Haunting....good movie.

To satiate those combative mechanisms, many make mountains out of molehills. It's how people are built. Look up the "blue dot" experiment. Very interesting stuff. You can also pair that with a side dish of the Hedonic treadmill. What a strange and interesting life we lead.

And then you have to take into account the concept of hyper focusing on something. Many people develop a dysmorphic view of something they hyperfocus on. That's what's happening to people that think they're ugly and/or fat even though they're good looking and/or thin, aka body dysmorphia. They hyperfocus on the small details. Without a sense of the whole, those small details become extremely odd and negative to them.

So with that said...just like the new storm system, where we'll be able to see them coming in from a distance, I can see the brown clouds of the social media ■■■■storm coming in regarding the consumption of empty jars.

My largest one is destroy area as I have unfinished changes on top of previous committed changes and one more improvement idea after that. Hoping that is sorted out tomorrow, so I can test a build over the weekend.
Hi @faatal
Please let us know on Monday (or something) if you were able test a build over the weekend.
Very curious to know how the build performed.

Thanks and have a great long weekend.

I just saw this post. This has always bugged me too.

In reality there are two distinct plants: "yuca" and "yucca". The starchy, potato-like plant is "yuca," also known as "cassava." The picture in the game looks like the yuca/cassava tubers. The plant itself looks relatively normal, with multiple stalks and leaves.

"Yucca," on the other hand, is a flowering plant of several species. The one probably referred to in the game is "banana yucca," scientific name "yucca baccata". It has a base that looks a lot like an aloe plant, with a main stalk and several banana-like buds on top. Its fruits can be eaten (as can its flowers), and its base can be used to make cordage (handmade twine/rope).

Neither plant resembles a cactus at all, especially not the Saguaro-like cactuses in the game. (You can also eat Saguaro cactus meat, so I don't know why the game didn't go with that.)

I love learning things like this, hence the reaction. My sister grows tropical fruits, and she occasionally brings up stuff like this.

If I make a mod I'll probably do that

@faatal
I have a few curiosity questions regarding 3rd person view camera.
Will there be an option, to have the camera auto switch views?
If you have tested it how fast does the camera switch?
Looking at it again on the Dev Stream, It made me think of an action
camera, similar to some of the newer thematic movies. Have you toyed
with that idea personally? Last looking at the stability of the movement
instantly made me think of the Drone. In first person will this possibly be
used to stabilize it's movement, in close encounters? In the future
