2.1 was removed, possibly to make room for 2.5? I know that 2.5 Experimental is coming very soon.I loaded in this morning and was forced to update. Was version 2.1 deleted? I don't see it on the betas list anymore.
2.1 was removed on November 20 to make room for a 2.4 stable entry (they also removed latest_experimental, like they always do when close to a new experimental release). The addition and removal can be seen here: https://steamdb.info/app/251570/history/Alloc posted on discord that they had to remove it due to Steam's limit of betas so that 2.4 could added.
Why are people playing mods stuck on 2.1? I don't recall 2.2-2.4 breaking much. Either way, if you're running mods that aren't being updated to keep up with the game you should make sure either Steam won't update automatically, or the better option is to make a separate install of the game away from Steam so you don't have to worry about it. This isn't a TFP problem, it's a user problem.
They've always usually kept the last point release of each major version. Why do we need 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, and 2.4 all available?2.1 was removed on November 20 to make room for a 2.4 stable entry (they also removed latest_experimental, like they always do when close to a new experimental release).
But still, why don't they remove Alpha 8.8 and 9.3 instead? Anybody still play these really old versions?
I think someone was saying that some people are playing some overall mods that are based on 2.1, and still not updated to the later updates (2.2, 2.3, 2.4). If you read the earlier posts, someone does mention something about their mod not working with either 2.0 or 2.2
I'm not sure that anyone is really blaming TFP. They are just asking not to remove the version. Now, it is true that TFP will usually keep only the latest minor version of each major version once the major versions are done updating, which means 2.0-2.4 will all be removed eventually... at least by the time 3.0 is in experimental. But dropping a version in the middle without warning is probably not the best solution. A news update in the game that warns that a version is being removed and to prevent updates to the game or set the game in a different install location before removing it would be a good PR move, imo. At the very least, it would be nice if they would make a separate download of a removed version that is available directly from them for a short time - a couple weeks or a month, maybe - so anyone surprised by the removal can download it and use it even if Steam updated on them. Also, I think that if you set the version to a specific version so Steam doesn't update the game, if they remove that version, Steam will update. I could be wrong. So that's also something people may not be aware of.They've always usually kept the last point release of each major version. Why do we need 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, and 2.4 all available?
I did read the earlier posts, that's why I said if you are running version specific mods it's on you to lock your game so it can't update. That is the least of TFP's worries, as it should be. What other game even allows you to pick so many previous versions like 7 Days does? And people will still find a way to complain. Always gotta be TFP's fault, can't possibly be the users fault for not making sure their game can't change versions. I'm still not sure what mods would work on 2.1 but not 2.2. And why hasn't the mod creator updated them? Why are users playing with mods that aren't being updated? I just have no sympathy as this "issue" could have easily been prevented by the users.
You are right, the user made a mistake but probably didn't know about this. Maybe he's a new player? They've always usually kept the last point release of each major version. Why do we need 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, and 2.4 all available?

Maybe they are. Still doesn't make it TFP's issue. You are right, the user made a mistake but probably didn't know about this. Maybe he's a new player?
But, TFP never removes point versions (2.0, 2,1...) until that main version (example: Update 2) is complete. But this time they did. I can understand that, once 3.0 is released, they usually would remove the earlier 2.x versions and only keep the last one (2.5 2.6?).
It's the first time I see this in an ongoing version still not complete, and believe me, I look at SteamDB on a regular basis.
Yeesh, this sounds like a Hammer reply. They don't need to worry about PR when removing .x versions from the list. It's basically a courtesy that they even leave them available in the first place. One user above complained as that was the version their mods were on but they could just update them to work on the newer versions that are still available. The OP didn't state anything about mods, so if they aren't an issue then what reason is there to stay on 2.1 instead of updating?I'm not sure that anyone is really blaming TFP. It's just common sense to never rely on those specific versions staying available. Make a copy of them and then you don't have to worry about it. And as more versions come out, it seems more will now need to be removed, so may as well learn the lesson now.
Why would any person choose to stay one an old .x version of the current update? The only logical answer is mods. TFP isn't concerned with mods or their current status for each version of the game. As a modder I appreciate any time they give us a heads up, but that is basically never and I have no issue with that. Should I complain everytime they update the game and it breaks my mods? No.
