So people are going to Vein i guess

So with the YouTube space alot of people are playing this new game vein. And im not a fan of the way the game looks. It has cool aspects that I think 7 days could use like almost every appliance is usesful and power going out at a set time like zomboid but still the game looks cheap. Which granted 7dtd uses to look like that and still is clunky but I love 7dtd more and it makes me kinda sad alot of people are moving on and I hope its just a phase or something

Cuz there's not alot of survival games we're you can go. ■■■■ that's my house now or ■■■■ that house ima tnt it or something and I love the horde mode aspect of 7dtd tho I think it could use more traps and zombies

It's a few things, mainly Vein just released into EA; everyone with an entertainment budget who plays 7dtd is highly likely to give it a go. Closest similar game in the genre.

Also, for creators, the 7dtd content has gotten a little repetitive; the recent patches didn't really bring much in terms of replay value. That has reduced my viewing into just JaWoodle's series, haven't watched any others lately. For him, he obviously likes Vein atm; but he'll certainly be back to 7dtd before long. At 3.0 latest..

From just watching Jaboodleboodle*, I'd say 7dtd has Vein beat in terms of combat mechanics and enemy variety; and the diggable ground is still a huge factor for me. And Vein's inventory/crafting mechanics look quite clunky.. It does show good promise, might even end up beating 7dtd; but I'd bet 7dtd will be "done" before Vein gets far enough to compete.

Can't predict what the future brings, but seems that 7dtd will be more arcady and simplified, while Vein goes for more realism and complexity; I'd say the audiences will mostly overlap, but some people will prefer one over the other due to that.

*YT auto-captions are strugglin' .. :)

Nah, Vein is something else, something between project zomboid and dayZ, I think 7 days to die is something different and better by its own way. Yes, I played a bit of vein, not my thing personally, wish the best to the devs that do it as I do to all in game industry.

I think it's totally fair to compare the two games, and really, I'm also thinking about grabbing it while it's still on sale. There's certainly things I like about both, Vein looking more hardcore survival, 7 days a lot more arcadey in some of the best and worst ways.
7D2D has way more diversity going on in combat situations, and though I haven't seen enough of what Vein has to offer in the base building department, I can't imagine it offers anything close to what 7Days does when it comes to creating something from the ground (or sometimes bedrock ;) ) up.
..All that said, I personally really like how hard Vein leans into its survival game mechanics clunky as it still is in many ways (I expect to see many changes across EA), and wish 7Days had a little bit more on that front.. Hopefully we'll get a little bit of that when temperatures/wetness are a thing again. - Though I still think they could push survival aspects a notch or two further than that and it wouldn't be too much.

There are a lot of similar games that look promising. The main thing is that the recent 2.0 update didn't bring as much replay value to the table so after a single walkthrough most creators have migrated to something else for now. They will be back of course as 7D2D is still a great game, but you can't expect everyone to play the same thing day in and day out in single player.

Also a lot of these games are still early so they will generally be clunky. The question is whether they get the proper updates or die off in obscurity.

I look at it from a different perspective.

What do MC Hammer, The Matrix, The Blair witch project, and 7 days to die
share in common?

All stimulated growth and evolution. Mc Hammer, paved the
way for rappers into the film industry. The Blair witch project sparked the
found footage, and low budget cell phone production era. The Matrix pushed
boundaries of CGI accepted physics at the time and inspired a lot of the
graphics used today. 7 days to die built/is building an AIO Indie world, just
remember before, it was believed that only AAA studios with a stupid huge budget
could create games.

They were not the first its true, but they were the first to try a complete genre
mashup. That is one of the first things that Madmole directly stated was the intent.
Simply to inspire, alternate forms of game development. An evolution of sorts, for
individuals and indie games. So considering the plethora of game choices today
i'd say they helped.

Don't worry mate. I watched a couple of VODs on it, and it did not tickle my interest bone. For sure many players will check it out but as for it being a 7d2d beater, I highly doubt it.

Vein is a good foundation for what may one day be a very good game. But right now its incredibly thin with not much to do and it doesn't really have that same pull Project Zomboid does. And its set recipe system is a definite huge downgrade from Zomboid.

As far as 7 Days to Die? They don't compete in the slightest. Two entirely different kinds of games. 7 Days to Die is about scavenging for tech/gear progression and then base defense where your choice of character build is a huge impact on gameplay. Zomboid and Vein are more long term survival games with limited character skills so outside of small quirks everyone feels the same. And currently in zomboid building bases is, if anything, counterproductive in most cases since zombies apparently hate everything the player creates but not the world.

Vein was a fun little diversion for a night, but it needs alot more work before it can compete long term with Zomboid.
