Stop forced EOS

You can turn it off (BEFORE you start a new game) in platform.cfg
platform=Steam
crossplatform=EOS
serverplatforms=Steam,XBL,PSN,LAN,

change crossplatform=EOS to crossplatform=

If you do it on an existing save, your character will get reset to lvl 1.

That didn´t help anyone when AWS went down. And it won´t help a lot of people next time something goes wrong. That needs to be an option in the launcher that doesn´t mess up you character and if it can´t connect it should automatically let you play offline. The majority plays SP and on private servers which usually don´t do a lot of crossplay. And there is a bunch of servers that don´t have crossplay on.

I really don´t see why someone would dislike options and instead prefer workarounds that 90% don´t know off, a lot of people won´t like because they don´t want to mess with game files and that mess up your save. Weird.

That's .. an option. Just not revealed in the UI ;)

It's an option no-one will ever think to set to anything, other than to fix a bug. Proper default handling by not merely relying on the EOS-id would go a long way - no idea what the requirements of the service are, but I wouldn't expect it being impossible to default back to steam-ids and the like ...

As in, fix the behavior, no need for arcane options.

Agree with you, this is very dumb situation

@Fritzl Why do you prefer a forced EOS connection that can cause problems if things go wrong and are against having an easy option to play offline if any service that is needed doesn´t work?

I mean crossplay is not the majority here. That´s SP. And the game should work on default for the majority.

Every service can have problems. And the offline option is being worked on as Jugginator said. EOS is going to stay, for good reasons. Whats next? I If steam is down, you demand access via PS network or xbox live?

If steam is down you can play in offline mode that´s already settled for SP aka the majority of players. And the only reason for EOS is crossplay, EAC is also from EPIC but that works without EOS forced on everyone. Crossplay is not even close to being the majority. Why should the majority of players be forced to go trough workarouinds if EOS is down? SP is by far the most popular well over half the players do SP only. A ton does private servers on the same platform. Public servers are the minority and public servers with crossplay the even smaller minority. Public and private servers rented at server hosts or your own dedicated machine don´t need EOS to work. They don´t need AWS to work. SP doesn´t need anything to work but your PC. Why force potential sources of error onto players that don´t even need those services?

Why do we need to ponder to a minority while ■■■■ing of the majority? Makes no sense at all.

@ALEXZANDER Yeah, kinda hoping to keep this on top. Maybe devs come to their mind and realize that EOS isn´t really needed for the majority of players.

That's not even true.

There's a way to "recover" your character by editing some save files.
I even explained how to do this, on Steam, at some point.
Regardless, EOS is forced down our throats like many other modern life "options".

[sarcasm]But haven't you heard? "Online is the future of gaming" and "players have to get accustomed to not owning the games they buy" [/sarcasm], ntm pay the price of a full game for models and skins...according to industry executives. I'd like to see some bucking of such trends on the part of studios as well as players, but it probably won't happen. The triple As, of course, shot themselves in the foot by overextending and we're supposed to feel sorry for them now?

"Support the developers"? So sick of players giving me that argument. Want to support the developers? Go indie. Maybe double A. Veterans from Nate Purkeypile to Jonah Lobe have left their cushie office jobs to strike out on their own. "Support the developers"? Why not support them?

/end soapbox
