Glitched through Desert Map - now can't load game

So my friend and I were just travelling for the first time to the Desert Trader, and I was on my bike following behind him.
We were in a Discord call BUT he wasn't answering me (later found his phone died)
Anyway I got there and went in and wondered where he was.
After I had finished, I realised his Dc cut out, so when I got to talk to him he said he fell through the map, leaving his bike full of stuff at the back gate, and asked if I could see him on the map. But I couldn't and the trader was shutting so I had to go find shelter.
On the way from the trader back towards the Burnt Biome, I drove what felt like, through quicksand and I immediately went under the map and couldn't get out of it.
So I had to close the game.
We discussed what happened, tried to load back in BUT now it gets stuck on the BUILDING ENVIRONMENT screen
I can hear the supplied plane going over (set to every day) but it just won't let me in the game.
I can enter into the game with my daughter's profile (we play on the same game in the library) BUT my friend can't join her (or find our world using her name)

Reproduction Steps
I have no idea

Quick question... How did you close the game exactly after falling through the world?
Through the normal means - but I think the next attempt to log in, I had to Alt+F4

Its def a player profile issue - as I deleted the player profile in a test (with backups) and the Environment built - it logged me in as my user, just started as a brand new player. Now if I could use the save player profile again, without the bug in there somewhere, I would be fine ...

Do you have a log from that session (where the issue happened)?
The link attached in the report is the earliest I had.
Haven't worked with logs before, so not sure if the original time it happened is now gone or not

Yeah, it sounded like it would be a profile problem. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot you can do to recover a corrupted profile. But that's just player information and not world information, so if you are willing to use the creative menu, you can give yourself enough XP to get to the level you were before (your log from before the problem will show your level) and give yourself any magazines and books you had (as close as you can get since you probably won't remember exactly what you had) and any weapons, tools, armor, mods, etc. that you had in your inventory/tool belt that were lost. So you can rebuild your character to at least be really close to where you were.

Or if your game isn't anything too special (no really big builds or something), you can also just start a new game instead. That's what I would normally do in that situation, though I haven't had a corrupt profile since probably A20.

For future reference, if you crash (or have to Alt-F4), it would be a good idea to back up your game before you try opening it again. Then, if there is a problem, you can replace your save with the backup. If you load a corrupted save, your good backup will be corrupted before you even know that the save is corrupted because it will be overwritten while loading the game, so making a backup first is a good safety measure after any kind of crash or improper shutdown.

Thank you so much for the info

I dont really know much about the creative side of the game - does it take long to do and how would I do that?

Yeah it was a friend that actually wanted to play and we had built things up pretty fast, but will have to talk to him about what he wants to do

The creative menu can be enabled from the game options before loading the map (same place you set things like day length and zombie damage). That will enable it for everyone in the game. Or, whoever is hosting the game can go to the console (F1) and type "cm" (no quotes) and hit enter and that will enable it and then F1 to close the console. That will enable it only for the host, who can then give items to the other player(s) if the host wants to make sure the other(s) aren't grabbing more than what's needed to get back to where you were. If you don't want it to remain on after using it, you can go back to the console and type cm again to disable it.

While it is enabled, you will see a new icon at the top of the screen that takes you to the creative menu (next to the icons for map and inventory and stuff). When clicked on, you'll see a list of almost everything in the game and can drag whatever you want to your inventory. You can search for what you want, such as specific magazines or books to recover what you lost. If you want experience from there, there is a "dev blocks" filter button at the top/middle. Click on it and then search for "dev" (no quotes) and you'll see a variety of dev items, including XP items. Be careful not to start too high on XP because you can't remove it once you have it. Start smaller and build up to whatever level you were at.

Grab your tools and weapons and stuff from there as well. After that, you'll need to spend your perk points and then you'll be at least somewhat close to where you were before your profile got corrupted.

Ty - was great to play around with CM

Here is a recording of the MAP PROBLEM I made after heading to the same area in Creative - near the end is the result and because I learnt F1 was able to bring up what happened

If it keeps doing it at the same spot, it's most likely a corrupted region file. In most cases, those end up being 0 bytes, which can make it easy to find. You can look in the save folder for that map/save and see if you find a region file with 0 bytes. If so, deleting it will reset it when you load your save again and it will normally be fixed. Alternatively, you can use the "rr" command from the console to reset all regions or specify the region you want to reset.

NOTE: Resetting a region will remove all changes made within that region that are not "protected" by a bedroll and/or LCB. So be sure anything you want to keep (base, mines, etc.) are protected before using rr just in case you reset a region where your stuff is. It would be good to make a backup of your save before removing any corrupted region file or resetting any regions in case you make a mistake.
