Bikes on stands

As a biker it distresses and disturbs me to see the bikes on the ground. Could you make it so they stay upright please. Or at an angle as though it were On a stand. Thank you.

People have asked for that for a long time. And in one dev stream, the devs commented on it and didn't seem interested in doing it for whatever reason. I forget exactly what they said about it. It would be such a small thing to add that would just make things nicer.

I would even be fine with having a Kickstand as a Vehicle Mod. 5 Springs, 10 Short Iron Pipes, and 5 Mechanical Parts = Kickstand.

The only time I ever see a bike standing up in game is when you first build it and place it on the ground. But after that it will never stand again lol.

Doesn't bother me, any more than getting punched in my face by a zed.. but, I think I saw someone make solid stands from one of the thin wedge-type blocks.. maybe the second part of a "long ramp". Drive on from the thin side, let the front wheel fall off the end, the body gets carried by the thick end. Seemed to work for the parking, but it's been a while. Only really usable at the base, of course.

It also usually stands when you pick it up and put it down again. It's also possible, though rare, to get it to stay upright after getting off the bike. Though that usually doesn't last more than a few minutes and eventually gravity takes over. If I care, I park next to something - a wall, for example. But I normally don't bother. I would prefer to have it stand upright, but it doesn't bother me too much. It would certainly help to find it in tall grass, though.

Very true, and I'm the same way, honestly, I could care less if it stands or not

What bothers me most about transport is that I can't remove it from my belt in places where construction is prohibited (at a merchant's or under someone else's claim block). And its falling doesn't matter to me; I usually put it back in my belt after I get to the right place.

We should probably ask the animator how small a task it is. An awful lot of people seem to think ladders and doors in video games are easy when they're not. There are an lot of shortcuts still in the game that probably shouldn't be at this point, e.g. swimming, and the bikes just popping up off the ground. Maybe it's somewhere in the bowels of the list of priorities.

It's not even just animation, that'd be easier; it's physics engine too. You'd have to disable the "normal" bike physics and force the bike upright. Add to that pushing it around while parked, jamming it between blocks - all kinds of weird physics edge cases.

Yep. I'm sure the animators can tell us all about those darned physics.

Considering the game already stands it upright when you first place it, the "feature" is already present in the game. Trigger that same effect when you get off the bike/minibike/motorcycle or else when using some button to trigger it. Yes, there are some things to consider - being on a slope, for example. But if it just did the exact thing that it does when placing the bike down, that would be enough for most people who would like it, I think. Also, unless you're animating a bike stand, there's no new animation - bikes already stand up and fall over and roll or slide depending on the situation. It would use the same animations already in the game. It would take coding, but there should be no reason for additional animations.
