Living off the Land Suggestion

I saw many players complaining about new farm system (although personally i dont have anything against the new farm system (even more because I believe getting food now from animals are alot easier than before, balancing the "harder farming")), but I can understand their feeling and so I thought about a possible solution.

How about changing the way Living Off The Land works, instead of increasing how many crops you get, the perk will instead increase how many times you can harvest the same crop.

The planted crops (if fully grow) now will have a hidden health, every time a player "hits" a fully grow planted crop it will grant some crop and suffer damage, if health drops to 0 the crop will break leaving or not a seed.

All crops wild or planted will drop the same value of 3 corns.

Eg.: Planted crops have a HiddenHealth of 7, hitting it will bring it back to starting grow if health remains.

Living off the Land Lv. 0: hitting crops damage it at 7 damage. 0% chance to get a seed.

Living off the Land Lv. 1: hitting crops damage it at 5 damage. 25% chance to get a seed.

Living off the Land Lv. 2: hitting crops damage it at 3 damage. 50% chance to get a seed.

Living off the Land Lv. 3: hitting crops damage it at 2 damage. 75% chance to get a seed.

How about new Books about farming? personaly I dont think its necessary so I didnt post about it, if you insist I could reddit it about books.

I believe this way farming will be more balanced and close? to what developers want, farming will be good and consistent and you will not be able to insta get a absurd number of crops like before, but will have instead a long time income.

I wanted to explain more but i'm not a native so I tried to resume my thought feel free to comment about it whatever you guys feel right.

(If someone has already posted something like this before then I'm really sorry, I first tried to search but didnt find anything like it before)

An interesting compromise. I don't mind the farming as it is now or how it was in a19. At first though, as many others where, I was taken aback with the changes made. With time and actually trying out the new system, plus seeing how plentiful the actual plants are in game I've come to accept and appreciate the new system. I now get excited any time I find a seed somewhere. I enjoy the hunt of finding different crops in the wild. (found a hops field guarded by a boar)

I think those that complain don't fully appreciate farming and only want easy plant it and forget it type mechanics. I firmly believe people love the idea of game changes, but hate when changes are made.

I think the Living off the Land skill isnt that big problem. Farming works pretty great (at least if you have it on Level 3)
What bothers me most with the Farming stuff is...that the useful crops are the last to learn in the magazine....corn, shrooms, potato...those are the most important crops (and we all know that in the early stage, you cant get lucky enough to get some food)

so, i think the first thing that has to get updated/changes with the Farming is...the sequence of the Crops...

at least corn should be a 10 instead of 17 (i'm not sure if its 17,..but its pretty much at the end)

I don't really think that is much of a problem anyhow. It is going to take a little time to unlock recipes that use corn (other than boiling corn, which is just a waste). By then, you should have found 20 farming magazines since they are so easy to find, even without perking into farming.

Besides, corn is the easiest crop to find in POI.

yeah easiest to find, but not for those "stay at home" Players^^ For me as a "stay at home" player...my farm should be done till day 6 (thats why i only play with creative, since its impossible to collect 20 magazines in 6 days, without going into an POI where i only die)

And since the Game is pretty much designed for Explorer's, its pretty hard for those who dont fit into that type. Changing the Sequence a bit, wouldnt make it harder for Explorer's since they still find food, crops and other stuff in POI's...but for the others they only get Food through their Teammates OR their Farm and all the other Crops before Corn, Potato are pretty useless for Cooking

In this regard, I am more concerned about cooking than farming. Baked pumpkin should be used instead of baked potatoes and corn. And pumpkin seeds should open before coffee.

In general, the developers should slightly revise the sequence of opening seeds and greatly revise cooking. Vegetable stew is already a completely normal mid-game food, so the seeds for it really can be the last ones. And the first seeds should be used for first courses.

I do like the new farming setup; it is so much easier to deal with versus the legacy version. I remember when I first bought the 1.0 version and looted seeds, went back to base and tried planting them kept getting that error sound. Spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to plant them. After a few minutes of research, I learned about the farm plots. I like them better now, don't have to till the ground, don't have to fertilize and water your crops. Way of life in that aspect to me is better and easier.

Are you playing the game with others? If so, there is absolutely no reason they can't get you 20 farming magazines by day 6. They should have then before the end of day 3 on 60 minute days. If they aren't giving you those by day 6, they are most likely reading them.

Also, you can get all those by going to a tier 1 using Q1 stone weapons without danger, so you shouldn't have to worry about dying if you did want to look yourself.

It depends on what you call "old version". The version with fertilizers is very old. After it there was a version with farm plots, when after harvesting there was a sprout and the harvest was similar to the harvest from wild plants. The current version has an increased harvest, a chance for seeds, but the plants need to be replanted.

I liked the previous version better, there was no need to replant. But the developers chose what they chose.

Well back then, you had to take a garden hoe, till the ground, plant your seeds, fertilize and water the crops after they're planted.

I heard about it, but I didn't live through it. I started playing with A17, when farm plots appeared. At that time, plants were planted once and periodically yielded a harvest. Only the amount of harvest depended on the skill. In addition, it was possible not to develop the farmer skill at all, you just needed to make the garden bigger.

I believe the legacy version was A16, but not 100% sure on that though
