Just read a post that got me thinking.

Rotor

Survivor
@ bft2020 mentioned that his style of play might be considered a "challenge run". I always see how much people are "drowning" in whatever, and how easy this that or the other is, etc.

So, here is my normal play through because I am just trying to survive the apocalypse. Some stuff I manage via game settings, some mods, some self imposed rules because well I like survival part of it....

1. I play dead is dead, not via game, if I get killed in any way shape or form I restart. Depending how fond I am of the RWG map currently playing, I may reuse, if not I create another. Only played nevez a few times early on while learning.

2. Loot no respawn.
3. Mod Z no respawn although maybe I don't need that one anymore.
3. I don't quest.
4. I only use the traders to sell junk and to overcome any ultimate frustrations with RnGeezus. But at some point I will use some mod to remove them.
5. Chunk no restart, forget actual name, can't fire up game right now.
6. 10k map, once I find that first trader, I don't move from that town until is cleared. I.e. I have hit every poi.
7. I use the minimum setting for z block damage because "f" them.
8. Usually build some form of crawler base for BM. Although not sure how viable they are now, haven't had chance to build one.
9. Since A21 have not removed spitter cop, but since there is a growing list of projectile Zs haven't had the time to figure out how to do them all.
10. Headshot only mod, but not sure is usable now. Again no time.
11. Bucket mod during A21 not sure about now.
12. 60min days, used to play 30mins, but that got hamster wheel really quick.
13. Level up from bottom because zombies are not sponges.
14. WalkerSim mod but haven't really made a long run with it to see how it affects my play through

That is of the top of my head. It is normal to me. So, I can't never relate when I read over abundance or ease of find, req, etc so and so forth.

I have never reached level 300, nor do I care, if and when then I will be like wow!

Have yet to clear a 10k map all poi's

I have less than 1k hours, but I have played this way since my my first few deaths when learning the basics.

Forgot to add, I will loot a mail box in a new York second when I walk bicycle by it. Notice no mention of a bike, never seen one other than picture and YouTube videos.

1. Perma is too hardcore even for me, lol.
2. Always.
3. The mod is called StayClear. Still needed.
4. I use traders and do quests, but I try not to rely on them.
5. Always.
6. 4k for testing, 10k for serious playthroughs. I do move around, though, and don't try to "clear" towns, per se.
7. I use 50%, personally. But I think it's dumb and gamey that rotten zombie hands could possibly EVER damage concrete or steel.
8. I nearly always take over existing POIs. I rarely build from scratch. Depends on the map.
9. The only zombie I ever remove is that godawful annoying baby boomer zombie from Guppy's mod.
10. I use KHV2-HeadshotDamageAdjust and it seems to work, so the headshot-only mod should work too.
11. BangForYourBucket still works with v2.x
12. I do 120 minute days, but with Options menu set to half XP and the Slow Your Roll xp-nerf mod installed. Sloooow progress.
13. Not sure what you mean by that...?
14. I really need to try that one. Seems very interesting. I miss the crazy wandering hordes of earlier alphas. ☹️

Hardness, adventurer? Forget the names. Not the bottom the next one up.

As far as Zs I am partial to the Romero style, I mean Resident evil is it's own game, dontg like it here.

Ohh, difficulty level. That's why I use KHV2-HeadshotDamageAdjust. It lets you crank up your difficulty, BUT keeps them vulnerable to headshots even at max difficulty. So body sponges, yes. Head sponges, no!

I do the same thing.... dead is dead. I die, I end my game unless I feel like the death was due to something I felt was unfair, but even then I don't feel great about it.

I only use a few mods that I made myself:
  • one that lets you disassemble vehicles to get the parts back. I made that one back when finding wheels was a pain; its probably not needed anymore.
  • one that gives 2 skill points per magazine, because I hate hunting for magazines.
  • one that increases the speed and fuel efficiency of all vehicles, because they just felt too slow by default.
I play 90 minute days, and default difficulty.
I also turn zombie block damage way down because I hate the fact that they seemingly have jackhammers for hands.
I do quest, but pretty much just because they're there.... I'd be just as happy if they didn't exist
I very rarely use the trader for anything other than the things you can't find, such as the dew collector mods.
I dont use any of the candies or elixirs. In fact, I don't use vending machines at all.
I try to use a different build every time I play, but I do seem to end up in the fortitude tree more often than any other.

Actually.... I just looked in my mods folder and it looks like I don't use the vehicle speed one anymore. No idea when I got rid of it.

You know that is not something I do until I am maxed/finished my style of play.

I am usually a stealthy rangy type.

Then I will venture into a melee or tanky style. That pretty much goes for any game.

Only time I play" in your face" styles is when I do flight sim stuff. Because head to head flight is the only game of chicken :) that gets me pumping.

It´s permadeath, 60min, Survivalist but all Z´s always walking except for blood moons, 3x spawn mod, KHV2 head shot mod, No rage mode mod if i can find one (not to be confused with the destroy all mode, where the start hitting random things after falling). Traders just to sell as i do use and need candies, and as Rotor for making up for bad RNG. No questing. No loot respawn, no airdrops, Biomes and Storms off, chunk reset off.

I do move if i feel like it, or if i find a nice spot i like. If i make it far enough, i will cheat myself trader quest progression to get infested T6 quests as this ups the the difficulty once i cleared my first few T5 POIs. Really wish we had more POI tiers so i don´t have to do this via quests.

Completly different in our MP Coop games as 4-5 people progress way faster than in SP.

@Rotor Seeing how you play, you should try the Rebirth overhaul. It has a purge mode, where you can´t progress to the next biome until you have cleared out 75% of the POI´s in your current biome. It´s just a complete overhaul with a quite steep learning curve, but it´s really nice. Zombies do evolve with you, at one point they get the ability to open doors for example (unlocked ones, they can´t lock pick :P).

Ya, I am a solo player. Forgot Zs walk except for BM as well. I do use airdrops. I like storms, just not how they are implemented.

Sorry can't play a mod where I can't move, if I want to, to another bio. And I like my Zs dummer than the lowest common denominator life/dead form...whichever that may be.

I tried playing with low loot percentages back around A18 or A19, but I realized that the option doesn't reduce the amount of loot you find by xx%, it reduces the odds you'll find *anything* by xx%. The game definitely doles out too much loot... but c'mon. That's not challenging gameplay, that's just an obvious logic error in the code.

No idea if TFP ever tweaked/fixed that.

I play solo at Insane, permadeath, Loot Respawn is disabled, and Loot Abundance at 50%. Otherwise it is vanilla. No mods.

If I think the particular game/map was too fun I might play on after death, but usually I start over.

I don't really know what is the best way to spend my skill points theoretically (and don't really want to know), so I usually try out some new combinations every time. But with scarce ammo I have to have some melee skills. And I like to defend my base using rifles, so points often go in that direction.

I often die within the first 3 days, often from a dog (I can't remember where they are so sometimes they surprise me) or from being cornered in a POI. Water and food is a struggle. Finding a pot to boil water can take some days. If I can survive past the first Blood Moon then I can live on for quite some time, until I get surrounded in a POI and I haven't levelled up sufficiently. Blood Moons are harder now with Yetis throwing rocks. I have to change my strategy somewhat to account for more varied attacks on the base.

Anyway, it is great fun.

1. I often play dead is dead, not via game. I may backslide on that if I feel it was game jank. I may or may not reuse the map.
2. No Loot respawn.
3. Mod Z no respawn although maybe I don't need that one anymore.
3. I quest occationally. I really like the Survival No Trader (SRT) Mod. It has "random level" storyline quests. I hope the Trader compounds are changed to remnants, but for now the traders just ignore you.
4. Often I only use the traders to sell junk and to overcome any ultimate frustrations with RnGeezus. But at some point I will use some mod to remove them.
5. Chunk no reset.
6. For single player I find 6K more than enough. 6k to 8k gives the best POI density, 10k has much more unused space. I max wilderness POIs. I don't clear towns but Vanilla sorely needs a teh Rebirth "Purge" mode.
7. Default XP, loot, and block damage.
8. Usually build a custom crafting and horde base. Been leaning into non-dropping bases lately.
9. No Zombie mods.
10. I usually go for headshots, but not through a mod.
11. Bucket mod during A21 not sure about now.
12. 60min days.
13. Level up from bottom because zombies are not sponges.
14. WalkerSim mod but haven't really made a long run with it to see how it affects my play through, Zombie run speed up one level (day and night), and ferel sense at night.

Usually, nomad, warior.

I reached level 300, to complete Warmongolian's challenge. Pretty easy using the suggested settings. Zombies were so slow on horde night that you had to leave the and fight in the street.
