Why does 7dtd still have no end game content?

After so many Alphas and almost 2 years after its official release we still have no end game content and much less In the ways of actual plans of what end game content looks like.

No them adding Pois that are bigger with the same zombies that can spawn in other PoIs anr lower difficulty PoIs isn't end game content thats just a new building to explore which can be done early game.

Where are the PoI specific zombies that would make those locations tougher? Why haven't we gotten a boss type zombie?

It just seems early game and to some extent mid game has been getting extend or progress slowed down to make us stay in those portions of the game for much longer periods of time with no focus or work being put into end game content.

It really is rather ridiculous that we have almost nothing for end game content and have had to rely on mods for that kind of content for years.

While the short version in the above posts might be true; I don't think an end game is being even planned.
I got no evidence to the contrary, but the furthest reaching plan we've heard of is to include bandit NPCs and some story related to them.

Going straight into pure speculation, the story line will get accomplished as you progress through the biomes; at the rate you do right now. There may be a few big bandit encampments to repeatedly raid, but once the story is done, the game carries on the same "infinite scaling" -path we have now.

I'll be happy if I'm proven wrong, and something "bigger" is getting implemented; but that's my honest guess.

{With tongue planted firmly in cheek} Most games don't have end game content anymore because the industry has it in its head that we want infinite games that can be played perpetually forever. (Actually, industry execs have it in their heads that we want to live and work and play and shop in them, leaving our corporeal beings behind. E. M. Forster's science fiction short story, 'The Machine Stops,' comes to mind.)

So, even if the story ends (in games that have stories), you're expected to just keep playing. And this is largely at player request. Players couldn't get enough of a game they loved and requested level caps be removed and games designed to be played long after "The End". Then there are the New Game Plus modes to start the hamster wheel all over again without losing all your progress. Not all are like this, of course, but most are these days. Tougher enemies are probably all you can expect unless you're playing a game that's all about bigger and better boss fights, e.g. Elden Ring.

Good. This "game" has provided me - an old fart of 80 yrs - an incredible learning and adventure environment for "13, 841 hrs on record, last played on 10 Aug." (Steam profile). It has challenged - and satisfied my imagination, my creativity, my fears, my artistry, my thirst for adventure - over the last 10 years or more: it has allowed many new friends to come into my life: I have learned - from the many masters here - how to mod in xml (and now - csv): how to blend the many good parts of others' mods into my own mod: how to make maps myself, how to color; how to alter environments; how to change what I start the game with; and on and on. . . I owe this all, to the Fun Pimps, and to those others here who appreciate - and share, what we have in this "game". There is no other game which has done all of this, or for so long.

All the best,
pj

When it comes time to add a new enemy type, which provides more bang for the buck:

  • A new zombie that any given player will only ever see if they go to a specific POI, and said POI might not be present in any given RWG world.
  • A new zombie that is guaranteed to show up a bunch for everyone.
I expect that the only time the latter wins that tug of war is when the game is far more feature complete. Especially considering boss type enemies, unless they can show up during blood moons... which could be a really "fun" way to screw with meme builds (and the gnashing of teeth there would accompany any bag of popcorn perfectly).

Because it's literally slated to come in 4.0, just as the roadmap spells out...
That is a newer addition. The game development cycle has been around long before that and old roadmap concepts have since been added, removed, pushed back or forgotten.

I am happy they haven't done end game. If they finished the game 4 years ago we would have missed so much.

While I think everyone might not be happy about every change I think that the game, overall, is still much better. The graphics, city design and other refinements have made the game better than if they just finished the game and moved on. You can tell this is a labor of love and as a gamer that's the type of developer I want.

Overhaul mods are your best chance. Darkness Falls, Rebirth, War3zuk, Afterlife, War of the Walkers, Joke Mod.

Bandits are kinda what TFP thinks endgame should look like, but due to the horrible V2 they now postponed them again to fix the mess and they won´t come in 3.0. Which is good.

If there had been an endgame eight or nine years ago - there would be none of these masterpieces around now., and TFP would have been into other things - maybe still programming games; maybe split up; who knows.

This is inaccurate. TFP have never stated that bandits are their idea if end game content. They are planning a story and end game goals/quests. Also, unless I missed something, they didn't say bandits weren't coming in 3.0. They simply said 'delayed'. Players are assuming that means they won't be in 3.0. I understood their comment as 3.0 is delayed. But again, maybe I missed a detail somewhere or interpreting what they said differently.

It's on the new roadmap. If they release a 3.0 without them and the update is called "A New Threat", as it is in the roadmap, I think people would be upset. If anything I think it just means 3.0 will be delayed to polish 2.0 which is fine by me.

The Wight is a perfect example. He's the "surprise" that's sprung on the player in the Jeffelon Zuckergates estate and, even, POIs like Butcher Pete's, which normally appear in starting areas. How unfortunate that he's been pooled into regular zombie spawns. There's nothing special about him now that he's treated as just another zombie variant. Same for Screamer, Spitter and Frostclaw.

Because players can never agree on what “end game” content is. I have never been on a forum that did not include constant complaints/criticisms of the lack of an end game or the monotonous state of the end game.

And this observation includes several live service games that are being regularly updated with new content but still lack an “end game” according to some.
