Quality Of Life

A collection of small game modifications that should make your in-game life more convenient.

These are intended to be modifications that are uncontroversial, and do not require any custom assets.

Features
  • The "already read book" icon is now a semi-translucent green check mark.
  • The time it takes to scrap or smelt brass is reduced by half.
  • If you have the required knowledge to craft ammo bundles, you can craft them...

khzmusik updated Quality of Life with a new update entry:

Update for 2.0 stable

This is now updated for 2.0 stable.

New features:
  • Harvesting parking meters now gives cash, not casino tokens.
  • When church bells are struck, they make a "ding" sound. It's not as good as the "Bells Go Bong" mod, but it's the best I can do while keeping this mode server-side. It is also compatible with that mod, so you don't have to choose one over the other.
Please let me know if there are any issues, or if you have any recommendations for uncontroversial...

khzmusik updated Quality of Life with a new update entry:

Small update for Quality of Life

In the spirit of the "Bell go Bong" mod, I included piano sounds in Quality of Life.

When damaged, pianos make a "piano hit" sound. They make a separate "piano destroyed" sound when they are destroyed. (They must be damaged or destroyed, so unfortunately it doesn't work with the piano in Jen's church.)

The sounds are vanilla (pitched differently), so the mod is still XPath only and can be installed on servers without clients needing to install the mod.

FYI, I'm always on the lookout for things I could add to this mod.

I have to keep in mind the (self-imposed) limitations of the mod:
  • It has to be server-side, meaning servers will push it to clients without clients needing to install the mod. At this point it means modifications must be XML/XPath only - no custom resources (icons, Unity assets) and no C#.
  • Any changes should be non-controversial, meaning most players would be OK with the change, regardless of their play style.
  • As much as possible, changes should be compatible with any other mods, including overhauls like Darkness Falls or War of the Walkers.
A good example of what should not be in this mod is a significant UI change. UI changes could involve custom icons, which are not server-side; each player wants a different thing out of their UI (some want minimal UIs, some want to see everything); there are already lots of UI mods that provide what different players want, and being compatible with them all is impossible; and overhauls often provide their own UI changes.

With that in mind, I'd like to ask for ideas.

What do you think would be a good addition to the QoL mod?

I already have a couple ideas:
  • The Dire Wolf sounds should be played at a lower pitch (to sound less like a dog and more like a monster)
  • The "drop mesh file" for items should match the mesh when you are holding the items (e.g. when you drop a drink jar, you and others see a jar and not that generic sack on the ground)
Any other ideas?
