The Ideal Blood Moon Horde Experience

As of 2025, what role does the Blood Moon Horde play in 7 Days to Die?
Here’s how I see it:
  1. A goal for beginners, casual players, or those who enjoy the game in a roguelike style.
  2. A regular threat that brings tension and keeps players alert.
When I think about the second role—the tension—it feels like the current implementation stretches the combat time against the horde a bit too long.

Of course, with good preparation and effort, it's possible to clear the horde quickly. However, as your game stage increases, the number of zombies just keeps growing. After just three in-game weeks, the Blood Moon Horde can last all the way until 4:00 AM.

Here’s the thing: even if the horde lasted only 3 minutes, players (except for the most skilled ones) would still need to prepare for it.
That means it's already serving its purpose just by existing as a potential threat.

In my opinion, at least from day 14 onward, the Blood Moon Horde simply lasts too long.

I imagine many of you have your own thoughts on the Blood Moon Horde.
What do you think?

Personally I think Blood Moons lasting all night is a good thing. It's a big event the player needs to prep for. As you progress and level up doing missions, the ammo and gear you get equal out. We get a ton of ammo doing infestation quests and Blood Moons are a good way to utilize those large stashes.

We acatually want and need long blood moons.

Once you progress in the game, preparing for blood moon get´s way easier. They should actually be a challenge but not only until day 14. Once demos come you need to make sure you can last the whole night with the demos beeing a huge threat for your base. There is no challenge when it ends before 1 am. The new limit of 30 Z´s makes it easier already. 60 not so tough Z`s are still harder to beat than 30 tougher ones.

In conclusion, let´s not dumb down the game even more. Already annoyed that we have another dumbing down thx to crossplay with 30 Z limit.

You might be the first person I've ever known to think they last too long. Every complain I've ever seen is that they end early, and that they should never end until 4am. I agree with that. Even if it means maybe trickling extra waves in towards the end, they shouldn't stop spawning till 4am.

As mentioned already, you are definitely in the minority with this topic. I haven't ever seen someone say they should end early before. Instead, I always see people complaining that they don't last all night. Even after they made the last wave "trickle", it is still possible to finish early and people are still complaining about that.

Maybe they will consider adding an option for horde length/waves. If not, a mod is the only option. And it wouldn't be a difficult mod to make. You just change the wave numbers for each set of game stages.
