I went and tried a Badge Run.

theFlu

Hunter
Goal: wasteland badge. ASAP
Settings: basically default, Warrior difficulty.
Rules: anything goes, try not to die (I did. Twice)

Why? Who knows. Was a discussion about entering the wasteland early to gather easy lootz, I started wondering how much of a time sink it actually is. So here. May end up doing another run later on, plenty to optimize I suppose. Might not thou, although, done this way it didn't feel that bad - it didn't interrupt my gameplay with nonsense as the nonsense was the game :D

Took a lot of notes, condensed it to some Highlights:
Started D1 with 2 point to sledges. Got to burnt by 1300; had to drink from a lake, but other than that, rather uneventful. Shrooms were hiding. Ran back to rekt for badge in the night. 5/10 STR

D2 Had to find an armor, forgot about that. Tried picking flowers to pay for one, but thirst drove me to a POI, lumber mill, end loot had free gloves, and no liquids... And a Sledge headshot double XP -book. That bodes well!

D3 Starting on desert, also completed on D3. Bugs are fine but annoying, can't seem to hit them with the sledge, using a spear to pop them. No real issues, but thirst is forcing to loot a couple POIs, wasting time from goal. Also due to thirst, can't really rush the spitters => the whole spear dance.

D4 Found a Bob, but a desert storm was on. Faffing about on the forest side, I got distracted by a dog eating a bone against my legs, IRL. Meanwhile in game, a spitter managed to hit me with the bug slow and I agroed a kitty cat while trying to end the spitter. Couple extra adds later, dead. Well, there goes the run, but I chose to carry on to actually experience the rest.
The airdrop was relatively lucky, curing both my infection and fatigue (death penalty: injured)
Thirst was still an issue, traversing through the Snow with a Cooking Pot in my bag... but got to a POI with water to .. eat vitamins, bandages, and straight up aloe cream to go with the spring water in there. Felt like a proper Grylls.

D5 9/10 Str. Drink was an issue still, made a dew collector, it made 1 jar during the day, standing on the snow, next to the campfire. Ended up messing around a lot due to storm and for fun. Got the stuff complete, no new traders - back to Rekt in central forest. Scared of cats, not frostclaws =/

D6 Encumbered by a feather. Had to start looking for Acid, and got one from the first garage box I tried.. THAT was lucky. Super corn, there was a carl's corn half a klik from my starter Rekt, easy peasy. Blessed run in that regard. Level 23 with 10/10 and 5/5. I must avoid leveling up to keep the game scaled right, right? I'd be level "less than 6" if I was trying for that. I don't even know how. Got to wasteland in the evening, but it was storming, of course.

D7 High hopes, too few blobbies. Everything else was peachy, got most done in the night. Didn't dare to hunt too many blobs at night as they always had a friend or two. Horde, I started it in the forest for the GS, and ran to a T4 POI in the wasteland for the loot stage. Not that fruitful, died to stupidity / lack of prep; broken leg and nowhere-to-hide. Couple T5 armor pieces and ammo, plenty of magazines ofc.

D8, well. I won't, hunting down the last 10 blobs and running to trader is a matter of grind, not challenge.

End stats: Level 28, 10/10 str, 5/5 sledge, 4/5 mastery, 1 pack mule, 1 cardio. AK-q3, dubsy-q1, q4 Iron sledge, random light armor. Didn't even do the introductory quest.

I think that's both a badly failed run, and "practically complete" on D8. Already dead, twice, so the final verdict is "I couldn't do it".
Timing-wise D8, it was quite a good run with easy corn, acid, early 2x XP book etc. Can surely be done faster without playing fetch with the kitties etc. But don't skip any chance for water!

Most toilets have water. Coffee pots. Soda machines. You shouldn't be hurting for water.
Get the tarp and collector for your dew condenser and you'll have 6 jars to purify every time you return from a mission.

You either spawned close to the burnt biome or your forest biome isn't particularly large if you were already in the burnt biome at 1 p.m. on day one.

In my current playthrough, I spawned relatively close to the wasteland. That's why the first airdrop landed in the wasteland. I went in, grabbed the loot, and got out again in under 30 seconds.

The shrooms are easy to find at night. Acid is a pain until you get the wasteland treasures book that lets you harvest it from cars. Then it's a matter of wrenching cars. Trucks, semi trailer trucks, cop cars, and ambulance have a better chance to get a bottle. I plant all the Yuka I get in my farm. Going to the wasteland early is very difficult.

Standard setting center-forest map; Rekt was about 1k to west of center, and he was on the wrong side for me to go meet on D1. I did look at the biome layout before starting, so I knew where to go (and I'd have checked which biome is on that side if I hadn't pre-checked).

So, yeah, it was close, but that just meant I wasn't going to meet Rekkers early on D1 :)

You had to walk to the Wasteland, I give you a lot of credit for that alone. I get to the Burnt Biome and I'm usually praying for bicycle parts.
Interesting run, not bad you did it in eight days.

In my current run I'm having dismal luck finding the Wasteland Treasures magazine. I'm on week 9 and I've gotten exactly one Wasteland Treasures mag.

Heh, thanks! I've been hoofing it since before vehicles (plural) were a thing(, not sure when the minibike was added thou); so that part was quite natural. Only hampered a little by the lack of liquids.

In that case you're only option is to save all the acid you get for the day you need to enter the wasteland.

Can't edit the post anymore, but .. why haven't people corrected me here, on this forum? Curse you, anonymous users of the internetz!1!

DaysLived are capped to PlayerLevel (for GameStage sum), not the other way around .. that's what I meant by "less than 6", I thought the effect of my level was capped to 6 days, as in (6+6); but it's not, it's (6 + 23) at that time. Times the constant 1.2 for some reason, naturally. It felt odd as I was recording the GS for my notes, and then eventually clicked.

I've been confidently wrong about that for ... some years now. Oh well, I can't level up too fast either way, but dang, I'd expect someone to actually tell me I was that badly wrong :P

Sorry for anyone I've mislead. This correction has no hope of reaching you, but still ...
