Temperature!

Please, bring back the temperature gauge! Otherwise, what's the point in having clothing at all, besides for protection (armor) from being damaged by zombies? You can run around naked in the snow and in the desert with no consequence to cold or hot damage, temperature gave more immersion to those areas and that's what I loved about that aspect of the game, a lot.

It's suppose to be a survival horror game, you got thirst and hunger in it already, temperature should be part of it too. When you're out in the wilderness in real life with nothing, you have to rely on temperature to survive in whatever climate you're in.

Temperature will be returning. Faatal said that awhile ago. They just need time to rework it.

It is good they are reworking it. The old temperature system was kind of a joke. You could just ignore it. "Oh no! I'm freezing! Let's take a swim because it doesn't matter."

But question is, why did it get removed in the first place?
They removed it when adding the new armor. With the changes for armor and for storms, they apparently wanted to redo it and make it better. And like I said, the old temperature didn't offer anything other than immersion. There was no challenge provided by it. You could sit with no armor in a lake in the snowy forest during a blizzard and it didn't matter. Sure, there was a minor debuff, but it really didn't make any difference. And it was extremely easy to wear something that kept you from being too hot or cold without even trying. Leaving that in wouldn't benefit anyone. I'll happily wait for a better system.

At least they are going to bring it back.

Well, that's good to hear, I figured they would leave the temperature out of the game forever when it was removed.

I will add that what TFP thinks is better and what we think is better may not be the same. So we will have to wait and see how it turns out.
Sweet, now that I know that temperature will be put back in the game, do I need to delete this thread or leave it in the forum?

Just leave it. Others can see the responses. And besides, you or others can give suggestions for how TFP can improve it if anyone wants.

Do you know if there's a thread about being able to smelt steel weapons or the anvil itself in the forge has already been requested to be added to the game yet?

The whole sentence should have been closer to: Temperature no longer works with the new biome geometry.

Think 3 dimensional vs 2 dimensional. The temperature was based on height, the terrain is now rendered flat so
no altitude for it to work with. Possible ways for it to work now, with this layout, distance from center to border of
biome change over distance, or time in biome the longer you stay the more it goes to it's maximum setting.

The second one may be easier to add, there is already a biome timer, and no extra tracing calc or processing,
just have to set a temperature per biome.

Would also be great if there was temperature in houses. You claim a prebuilt house, the temperature inside is the same as outside, then after adding torches to light up the rooms, a fireplace, the forge. When activated (fireplace and forge) it should make the temperature in the house go up 1°, after like 10 minutes game time goes by, would make it more immersive that way, especially if you're in the snow biome.

It sort of does that, sort of. That's what brings the screamers.
If the heat map numeric was attached to a thermometer, or an icon or a little human figure that
changed color. It could be used as a visual indicator. But not too many more UI indicators
on the screen, maybe if it can be worked into something that is permanent on the ui already.

Like the xp bar. Where it would change color. then the problem would be as you move around
your indicator would be constantly changing color like a mini strobe.

It is a nice QOL addition thought, and if they are bringing it back they may do something like your post.

Eh, they need to get rid of the screamers too, they're a nuisance. I dunno if they're the same way on PC, but ho boy, on PS5 they're a menace and relentless. Me and a friend were in the middle of a tier 5 mission at a army barracks/base (pre update 2.0) 3 green screamers spawned and called at least 20-30 zombies outside, found their way in and massacred us. We had no chance, even though my friend had an MG-45, they were too fast and too many, we couldn't get out since the place was like a maze underground. Wasn't able to finish the mission before we died, luckily we were able to get our stuff back though and got the end loot inside. The screamers have invaded us many times over while on missions and it's so annoying.

Remember the heat, Screamer spawn has always been a little heavy handed. I'd suggest, if you are
about to do some gratuitous violence on a large scale, make a path to escape and regroup up higher ,
and if there is a door way you busted to get in, make a door and arc wooden spikes around he outside.
It won't stop them but it will slow the initial onslaught down enough to figure a plan. plus you will hear
them hit the spikes.

It does help, I first started doing it with the frames so things stopped sneaking up on me.
Good luck

If you go in to a POI using guns, especially ones like a machine gun or shotgun, you're going to attract them. I think that makes sense. I rarely get screamers at a POI because I prefer using melee. But as mentioned, you can do things to deal with screamers if you want to use guns that generate a lot of "heat". Closing doors and putting spikes down will slow them a lot. Breaking a ladder or staircase so they can't follow you up is another good option. Of course, I don't do either and I'll just kill whatever comes in. But if you find the screamer hordes to be too much, those are good ways to keep them away or thin their numbers before they reach you. Having an exit so you're not stuck in a corner also is very helpful. You can normally hear a lot of noise once screamers bring their horde to a POI, so you should be aware that they are there long before they reach you and can prepare. Find a place up high and start killing them from a distance. There are definitely options available to deal with them.

And if you really want to reduce the chances of dealing with them, you can get them to spawn before you start the POI by generating a lot of heat near the POI. Then you can kill them before starting the POI and you'll have a minimum of 22 minutes before they'll spawn again. That isn't enough to finish a POI, but they aren't guaranteed to spawn at 22 minutes. There is only a chance. And if they don't spawn, you have 4 minutes before they have a chance to spawn again. It repeats that way, so by killing them first, you have at least 22 minutes and a decent chance of 30+ minutes before they spawn. That might not let you finish the POI, but you'll be much further in by then and more likely to be in a location they can't easily get to considering how most tier 5s are built.

They can be an objective bottleneck. I just look at them as another entity, like the the use to be 4 legged ninjas
that make sounds now, the hornet that would follow you across a map, oh I loved them, and the desert, when
vultures actually attacked. I re-nable these every alpha, just because they are a part of the game.

I can see how the exponential spawn can become a lot. But I try to keep my mind on heat, mixing my weapon
type use. And moving around, I looked at heat map gen when I was doing a project, I for get the distance, but
If I moved a certain distance, that area had no heat, and Id let the other area cool down, then resume.

@Riamus just mentioned something I never thought about, Pregen a screamer just before entry. I will use that.

I just thought of something else have you ever tried having spike traps in your belt next to your main weapon. just drop them across the
path then use your longest melee weapon, to knock them down if you can, they continue to get hurt while laying there, and it lets the heat
co down a bit.
