Your Online Name/GamerTag

Lax

Scavenger
Did a quick search and couldn't find any topic related so forgive me if this has already been asked. Just curious how everyone selected their online name.

I was a beta tester for Xbox Live back in 2001 and testers got first dibs at selecting gamer tags. I played lacrosse for over 20 years so for my love of the sport chose Lax. Been using it ever since.

As an undergraduate, I was programming on a mainframe computer. Our jobs would run and the output would print. The print-outs were put into bins based on the first letter of our last name as known to the mainframe. "Tong", so the T bin. That bin was always full. I figured out how to change the last name it was using for my account. (It was just in a configuration file.) The Z bin was empty. I liked ZZ Top, so ZZTong.

Mine was given to me by my Captain. When we went on drills, we would do red and blue teams, and by Sunday morning, we had to capture the other teams base using MLES (miles) equipment, I always opted for us to assault the other team in the dead of night, usually around 2am on Saturday mornings.

There was a table top game called MERP back in the day based on Tolkiens LOTR books, long live the dwarves! This was my first characters name

Mine was a name I made to use for an elf in a MMO that was being developed a long time ago but ended up getting cancelled. I liked it, so I kept it.

Mine is an amalgamation of my entire name. 77 is the number of house I lived in at the time.
Whoops, I usually put 77 after my name. Looks like I didn't do that here.

Originally I started out a "Black Thunder". It was my sig for doing custom automotive work. Had planned on starting a company working on auto detailing, custom paint and audio, but life went a bit sideways at one point. Won several audio contests under that title though, and did at one point get named Silent Thunder from the guys I worked with at said contests.
Carried it into gaming, and that was my tag when I was a GM for Meridian59. Used that for a long while, but switched over to SilenThunder at some point. Then it was "cool" to use Y instead of I in some things, and SylenThunder it was. Has been that way for near 25 years now.

Started hardcore gaming in college and one of the first games I really got into was Counter Strike (before it was sold to valve and still in development state). Wolfie was my callsign that I used 95% of the time. When I was having a bad gaming session and dying a lot, I would change it mid-game to BigFurryTarget - a play on words from BFG and Wolfie. Apparently some sites get offended with this so I had to shorten it to BFT2020 (2020 was just the first year I started to shorten the name)

...and SylenThunder it was....
In the DC area is a radio station out of Howard University called WHUR. They had this 9pm radio session they called the "Quiet Storm". That's what I think about every time I see your Tag.😀

I used to belong to a Counter Strike/Wolfenstein Clan for a while called CCP, Cracked Pipe Clan. Oh the memories.

And because i'm a happy drunk. Just kidding. Or am I.
My avatar is a rep of one of my cars in the driveway.

They also had it in New York. It started with Smokey Robinson's song playing.
