Why is it the traders never have a crucible when I can afford one?

For a more serious answer, the first reset of the traders seems to be broken, either intentionally or actually broken. That one can contain a crucible, and you won't be able to afford it. From there, at some point the crucible will become hidden if it was there. Only to return once you're way higher level. That's when you may or may not afford it, should be easy enough by then to earn enough, but spending it all is still possible.
You can make enough money in the first three days to afford the original, but takes intentional effort, like picking 3x3 stacks of flowers..
