PC Before I start down the Path of playing Modded 7DTD...

I just want to ask a couple of questions.

1) What actually happens when I start hosting a new game? Where is the game program actually running?
2) Why can I only make selections for single player game, but when I host a new game w/friends, my settings are overwritten?

What I'm asking is, is a game of 7DTD running hosted on my own computer, or is it actually run somewhere else, and my computer is just logging in to that remote machine?

1. If you aren't useing a service like GFN. You are running the games on your local computer.
2. Not sure what you are on about here. If you are the host, you set the settings for the save when you start hosting. All the options are in the same place to be configured when you are starting the world save.

Ok, so when I host a game, the other folks are connecting to my computer, not some third party machine, correct?

If that is indeed correct, then why do the zombies get to move faster than a walk, when I play with others, rather than solo? Using the {Walking Dead} speed setting for both types of games.

It's been a while since I have played a solo game, but back when I was, the zombies seemed to obey the speed limit, and in multiplayer, they do not. Is this something that has changed in 2025? Or am I missing something?

Playing with my friend, we always choose the {Walking Dead} as the zombie speed, but they still end up moving faster than a walk. What is causing this?

Yes, you are hosting from your computer if you aren't using a dedicated server. All settings will apply just like in SP. Double check your settings in your MP game before loading it to make sure they are set correctly for what you want. I've been hosting MP for a long time and the settings always work, but you can sometimes forget to set something.

Also, zombies have a rage mode. They can run at you if you damage them, regardless of settings. And don't forget that there are 3 different zombie speed settings. And since you mentioned mods, remember that mods could change things on you.

@WarMongerian This right here is what will cause some zeds to move faster. If you are on 2.0, then there are/will be other factors affecting zed speeds as well.

The lowest "difficulty" setting will set the % for rage mode to 0. At the default difficulty it is a 20% chance.

Yeah, I should have mentioned the lowest difficulty does disable that. I forgot when I wrote that.

I see. I will have to double check these setting folks, but I'm sure we are getting zombies that are running. I have noticed the 'rage' thing, but then I think we are playing one difficulty setting above lowest, but I'll have to double check this to be sure.

Anyway, with the recent talk of what v2.0 is going to be bringing to the table, I have to ask, if I was going to mod the whole lot of non-melee attacks out of the game (for the zombies), would it make any sense to even play v2.0, or might I just as well stay on v1.4?

So far, I had not eliminated the cop and zombie bird's ranged spit attacks, thinking that TFP would just make a setting for folks to opt out of such, and I could continue to enjoy playing un-modded 7DTD. However, with the inclusion of additional ranged attacks, and worse still, area of effect ranged attacks, I see the need to mod these out of my personal playing experience.

With my personal handicaps in eyesight and fingers being stiff/numb, I can barely cope with the existing ranged attacks, and feel that they 'ruin' the game with non-classical zombie attacks, to say nothing about their non-damaging portions, like hitting through walls, obstruction of my little digital dudes vision (on top of my real life vision problems), and their brief, lingering effects.

It also appears that v2.0 is going in the direction of 'player base destruction' as a bigger deal, and while I suspect that this may be a thing that some folks want, I do not. My playing time if for hunting/killing zombies, building up my bases, and doing all the other things I want in this great game, not having to waste more and ever more time repairing my bases, just because some folks want to spend their time doing so. Personally, I just don't see the dead, with their flesh rotting off their bones, banging away on structures and bringing them down. If 7DTD is going all in on "Mutants, Monsters, and Bandits, Oh My", I'll be forced to either stay on v1.4, or just walk away from the franchise, unless I can mod away all the stuff I really don't like.

There are things in 2.0 and even future version you may want. So that is what will determine which version you want to play. It is very easy to just mod out certain zombies you don't like, so the version shouldn't really matter. But that is a personal decision.

Remember that for base damage stuff, there are have options to reduce zombie block damage, which will reduce repairs you need to do. Of course, that also makes the game easy is they can't break through to you on horde night. But it is an option if you want it. Otherwise, you can mod certain blocks that you want to have a lot of health so they don't break and then you could use others with normal health for zombies to break when trying to reach you.
