Animals Sometimes Don't Run Away When Shot

I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. Sometimes when I shoot a deer or pig with an arrow the animal just stands there instead of running.
It's been at night and I'm wearing stealth boots, and the animal isn't aware of me.
An animal should run if it gets hit with an arrow, regardless if it sees who shot it.

I always 1 shot deer in stealth so I haven't seen this happen yet. what kind of animal specifically?

I wonder if you might have stunned it. I don't recall stun being a bow thing, but I've not looked into it. I use bows all the time, but usually they kill the animal. Only very early in the game do I wound an animal and have to chase/track them. Stealth adds a neat wrinkle, especially with the hostile animals, when they live.

It's definitely early game where a bow does not kill a dear with one arrow. As I'm not a deer hunter I don't know for sure if a deer gets stunned, but from videos and movies it seems they always run away. In 7D2D 2.0 the deer seem to often not move after being shot, and it's unimmersive. I'll forget about it once bows can kill with one arrow.

Not always. When hit by a small caliber, especially sporting cartridges (they are quieter), he can jump back a couple of meters and start looking around. Including with a shot through the heart.

I've experienced this too. A rifle shot straight into the body of a deer and it completely no sells it.
