V2 Storm:

sorry...if you want the new stuff, it will take a new game. BUT...you still can play your current world til you are done, before moving on to the new. :)

There are significant changes, so starting over will most likely be required. You *might* be able to continue a save if you don't care about new things, but it will probably break. You have at least a few weeks before it is out on console to finish up a current game, and you can always choose not to update until your current game is done. And don't forget that this game is intended to be played over and over in new games, so starting over really isn't that bad unless you are in the middle of a big build or something.

Just wondering if it will update our current map or do we have to start all over?

It's hard for me to say. This is the first time we've gone from a 1.0 to a 2.0 release and I don't know if that comes with a different mindset of the Developers. I want to say a while back there were statements about that being a goal. I don't know if that held or even remained possible. If you're of the mindset that 1.0 and 2.0 are just more "alpha" releases then you'll more likely expect some incompatibilities. In time, we'll know how TFP feels.

It has been getting easier for maps and POIs to cross over between the versions. I attribute that to the collection of blocks in the game becoming more feature complete, thus stable. That is, while we tend to get new blocks, it was when old blocks were being replaced (or phased out) that there was lots of churn.

The other issue is an old map cannot retroactively receive RWG changes and new POIs. If you want those new features to be in play, you would have to make a new map.

As others have said, if your map doesn't convert, you can keep your game on the current version and continue to use your map. I suggest making a backup of your map.

Actually, I'd like to know a little more if you would humor me. What about the current map do you wish to preserve? Is it all about the memories or are there some features that are just so cool you hate to leave them?
