PC Dire wolf in GS mid-30s?

Good morning all.

I have a game set to the lowest difficulty/easy/default settings for my "family only" server. It's a large rando map and we're all around in the level 20's with a GS of mid 30s ( due to their medical issues they can't play most video games, so they really enjoy 7days ).

Had a fetch quest that led to the POI - MAN DOG SNEK PIG. We placed a storage box in the street, so we could clear and loot before starting the quest ( as you do ).

We started the quest ...

And, someone thought it was funny to have spawned in a dire wolf in the first bedroom ( red walls ). Since we only had the starting weapons/tools and pipe guns, we were murdered about 3 or 4 times before it was defeated.

Is this a bug, or a feature tied to T2 quests?

Thank you.

I don't think it's a bug, as a dire wolf has always had a chance to spawn there way before they buffed the dire wolf considerably. I do agree that dire wolves should appear no sooner than tier 3 locations, not to mention, a bit later than they do for bloodmoon.

oh i love that spawn chance. It is such an incredible holy **** moment lol. But if you are playing a dead is dead game, it can suck so hard. lol.

you could allow the the developer mode on in your server, that way in the rare case of a dire wolf spawning early you just hit Q and you are safe. Q turns on God mode. and just turn it off afterwards. I personally see no real difference in using that and respawning multiple times before you kill it.

Yeh; while it's a case of "a little rough for the level", it's one of the rare OhCrap!s that don't feel completely stupid.

I wouldn't suggest Godmoding it, just .. forget about the quest for now, and figure out how to _survive_ it.
- bail
- build a defensive position (cobble from trash and/or using the structure of the POI)
- figure out how to kite it within the POI (and get eaten)
- clear surrounding areas
- learn to carry mollies

etc etc, it's just a learnable moment :)

Only way to get this chance increased is
  • having default day length increased
  • XP % multiplier increased
This will make your game stage get higher, and allow harder enemies to spawn. It is like game is designed to 60min cycle and 100% XP. Going outside of that frame it can get really hard or easy depending play style.
Higher loot% settings has also kind of indirect hit to game stage. You find better tools / weapons faster. Which equals also faster XP gain leading to higher game stage.

These settings has cumulative effect trough game stage.

I think that is probably the only low tier POI with a dire wolf that can spawn in it. You can avoid that particular POI if you want, but I like that it is there. As others have said, it's a nice surprise that gets your adrenaline pumping. But if you want to keep a lower difficulty, then you can just avoid that specific POI. But once you're up to tier 4 and especially tier 5, you're going to see a large increase in difficulty.

As an agility player, I learned very quickly that running away is always an option and having an escape route planned at all times is key to survival. Wandering horde of zombies - no problem. Wandering horde of zombie dogs - where is the nearest high point?

The quote options such on an android in this forum,

Anyways, the above moment describes my style of okay, and I STIL love the oh /inser fecalmatterhere moment/chance.

Wouldn't have any other way.

Specially the one when I am walking down a road and pack of dogs starts running at me.

Isn't there a POI where a Screamer jumps down unexpectedly from the second floor of a house under construction?

IIRC, its a Tier 1 garage and support area under construction. (Good for an early FA magazine from the mixer and some resources)

It is a screamer for the jump scare, but not a screamer that calls in zombies or other screamers.

I have never seen a dire wolf in a building before. That seems really odd. I don't think this is a POI spawn. It's got to be a bug. A dire wolf in a POI can't be handled without dying unless you have tier 3 weapons. That is just insane for GS 30.

It's a POI spawn, the ManBearPig-shack has always had a good chance for a dire, even back when they were fleshy and squishy.

You don't have to handle it IN the POI, the tunnel below is decent and you can always build or just kite like a Dan:

well then that POI's DANGER level needs to be AMPED way up. 2 skulls is NOT representative of a Direwolf. That is literally the hardest enemy to kill in 7d2d.

Perhaps; I'm not one to judge. In related news, there's a "patch of forest" -POI with no skulls, with a dire snoozing between some small hills and a couple trees. Saw one on a 1.0(+) playthru in the first week (or maybe second), stayed well clear for a couple weeks .. :)

If it drops a red bag everytime it needs to be a tier 5 POI based on that alone. Their HP is higher or the same as an entire level 2 POI zeds combined.

In any specific way? It seems to work about the same as the old forum for me. Reply button for a single quote, quote button to multi quote. And you can highlight text and click quote to get just that text. The only real change there is that you don't get a pop-up to write highlighted text.

I am pretty sure I have seen it there. You usually get pigs. In the past, you could occasionally get a wolf instead. Now, that would is a dire wolf. That may be a mistake from the change. But I like it.
