Those first few points don't have to be a reward for the starter quests, it's just how they're laid out now. From the RPG perspective of the game it'd make perfect sense to hand you a couple points to essentially "roll your character" and flesh him out a little.

He said 30lb draw weight. That's the measurement of effort needed to actually pull the bowstring back. On a plain recurve bow, you're holding that draw weight for the entire time so it gets taxing very fast.
Compound bow is a different animal, the actual bow weight plays into fatigue more so...

There seems to be a big variance due to the RNG hating on you. First released build I had a dozen pistols before day 10, plenty of repair kits and was good on food because there was a boar or deer everywhere. Second build I nearly starved and managed to find a shotgun for horde night. I did...
I turned off the in game controller option and just used mine by straight up mapping on the controller. The mouse input wasn't working, I couldn't look around. Figured it was conflicting.
I've got mine set to toggle run in the outermost ring of the stick movement.
