Mixed about it.
+Feedback from combat is great. Crosshairs while aiming down the bow allows for some silly 30+ block sniping shots. Bonus points when they get hit and fall on the ground. Sledgehammer hits on vultures and seeing them ragdoll 5m+ away gives the sense of OOMPH in the swings.

I've had it happen to me the other day. Was pretty bummed out since I was carrying a silencer schematic, tool and die set, and some pretty good guns from scavenging. Not sure how TFP did the spawning mechanics but it's, imo, something that really needs to be fixed down the line.

I've never bothered to see how high they can jump individually. However, I have seem them pile on top of one another creating a zombie staircase of sorts to get over obstacles.
