You're connecting to a server. Either the server is using incompatible storage mods or is still on 2.1. To confirm that, try an unmodded local game - your problems should be gone ;)

Are you using a bigger backpack mod or some other UI mod which changes the look of backpacks? It is most likely incompatible with the update and needs to be updated for 2.2. Just remove it until the mods author fixes it.
