    Not a great answer, but you can mod the damage that the zombies do. That's my answer until it's balanced better. Chances are there will be a mod available that can give you more of that feeling as it's really just the damage setting keeping you from doing that.

    It's also a building/crafting game, and people would like the building part of it to mean something. Most of the criticisms I see are quite fair. Zombie spawning and hearing is broken. They're waaaay overpowered, and base building is a pointless endeavor.
