PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

You mean for you "Jars won't change that part at all" most people do not carry broken glass around in their inventory, actually kinda wierd that anyone would, Jars now become a viable option again for times players need that broken glass.
Do you have any idea how many windows there are in the game where someone could get broken glass, not to mention bottles and other things that can be broken to get broken glass? Jars wouldn't impact anything. And since you're using a lot of mods anyhow, if you don't want jars to leave broken glass when scrapped, just change that. It's easy.

Your absolutely right and i just don't see how anyone is going want to not wipe and start a new map with this update, as many current mods are going to break while the meta is making many changes.
#get.ready.to.wipe.your.current.map :D
Anyone using mods is on PC and can choose not to update until their mods are updated. That has been the situation all along with mods. Even a minor update can break mods. They can also choose whether or not they want to start a new save. People have a choice and that's good.

No micro-update will be as big as 2.5
Tfp plz do/make another big update like x.x
They aren't going to change it to 3.0. The roadmap for 3.0 is already set up. They have always done updates to a specific main version within the minor update versions. Any, in reality, these new things for 2.5+ are all pretty minor anyhow even if there are a lot of them.

this update just feels different:
i've been through years of updates, 2.5 just has a different feel about it, it would be hard for me to consider it a minor update.
Everything i have read about it screams major update to the meta.

I would understand them being uncraftable/hard to craft and or find but them adding jars back but not getting them back after using them is imo. Pointless

It's like the system we have now but slightly different.

Getting the jars back after use turns out to be the whole problem with the old system. Finding and crafting new jars while at the same time getting back every jar you ever used is what made the entire thirst survival feature trivial. I did not want them to return empty jars but after playing 2.5, I can say for certain that what I actually did not want was for jars to be preserved after use. Finding some empty jars in loot was never the actual problem. There has to be a sink in order for there to be any kind of survival gameplay. It can't be a snowball economy and still matter at all.

The new system is very much "like what we have now but slightly different". The differences are simple changes that bring back a bit more immersion but also crank up the thirst survival gameplay. Empty jars are coming back but we won't be getting them back after use and in my opinion it is the opposite of pointless. It is exactly why I now am happy whenever I get a jar from loot and why I buy all the empty jars the trader has for sale.

I'm sure there will be those who will hate the changes and most likely mod drinks and honey and whatnot to give back the jar after use so they can have a million of them on hand by Day 2. Empty jars were removed because the way they were implented made early water survival trivial. Critics of the original change claimed that dew collectors made it just as trivial but just in a different way. I believe that TFP has made some interesting and simple adjustments to make the early game water survival gameplay not trivial. This isn't an overhaul nor is it reverting this aspect of the game back to the way it was before dew collectors. Instead, it is an adjustment with the feedback of the community in mind and while the changes do have a big impact they are simple changes and the system is mostly still the same as what we have now in 2.4.

I can already see things blowing up and people getting mad by this.

People are always angry, so it doesn't really matter. ;)
Well at least you should be somewhat happy about the changes but the pimps saying "jars are back" and not telling people what to expect. Im not saying the pimps lied but im sure people aren't going to be happy. I personally wanted reusesable jars with the things they stated they wanted to do like like them breaking if you take fall damage or just damage

Well, I don't want jars, so no, I won't be happy about them. If they can be entirely invisible if I don't want to use them, then I don't care. But it sounds like that won't be the case, so I'll most likely end up having to mod them back out again.

In any case, TFP only said they were bringing jars back and that there would be changes to them. No promises that you'll get them back as they were or that you'd get them when drinking something. If anyone assumed that was what was planned, that isn't TFP's fault.

Once jars are back, play the game for a while and then decide if you like the changes. Right now, your opinion isn't worth much since you don't know anything and have not tried it.

Let TFP cook and stop the negative comments about things you have not even experienced yet.

I could say the same thing..and i really don't need to play to see how its going to work

It's the system we got now but now you have the option too opt out of the dew collector. Great! Perfect! Love it, I hate that stupid thing anyways. I dont need to be a play testers to find out how it works, I have a brain

the issue should be the water itself. Not whatever you put it in. Its been who knows how long sense the apocalypse and your telling me that with zombies, rotting, dying, etc in the water, possibly ores like lead and iron being pretty common most likely seeping into the soil, Atomic bombs dopping Radation, and just other basic bacteria (that part can be boiled away) your telling me water would be safe to drink? Na thats flint michigan water

I'm not judging either way and waiting to try the new update and I suggest you do the same, instead of floading the forum with negative comments.
It's not even back in the game yet!

Will we be able to mod out the destruction of water jars via XML?

I don't expect to keep an overwhelming number, mostly because I don't plan to let empty jars stack above 10.

Ultimately, I don't care if there are jars, or not, but I prefer to be able to carry water away from a water source.

Thanks for this. When they removed jars I was happy. I hated the constant clutter of jars added to my inventory every time I had a drink. I think I may be rather happy with this change, especially if it makes thirst more meaningful in the early game.

Gamer outrage isn't really avoidable anyway. We are social animals and our attitudes are shaped more by the community we're a part of than many of us want to admit. That's why I've left most gaming subreddits: they are overwhelmingly negative and hostile.
