PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

Just asking for better communication should not trigger you this ■■■■ing hard.
Eh…who’s triggered around here?

I guess I’ll spell it out again since you tried but couldn’t find it.

Storms improvements
Jars and water survival adjustments
Apiaries
New models for Frostclaw and plague Spitter
Smell
Temperature
Clothing
Wetness

All of these features are planned for a 2.x release. Anything complete by 2.5 will be in that update and anything not complete will slip to 2.6. All of them are “penciled in” for 2.5.

All of these features were erroneously assumed by IZ Prebuilt to be planned for 3.0. He was wrong. They will be in a 2.x update.

Bandits are still slated for 3.0
3rd person viewpoint is probably going to be 3.0
Chicken coops—-I don’t know
Combining—- I don’t know

Some people just love drama or do not keep up will what we do post. Saying 2.5 will be released several weeks later does not mean the sky is falling. The initial 2.5 experimental will just contain more changes.

There is no hard rule what will be in any 2.x release. Many people work on these features and they get done at different rates based on complexity, feedback, bugs, illness, vacations, holidays and other projects.

One issue we have had is some dependencies between features when branching from trunk to 2.5, making it hard to split them into separate experimentals.

My current estimates:

2.5 has these nearly done features:
Jars - 100%?
Distant storms (rendered at distance) - 98% (code done, a few particles tweaks left)
Character preview render improvements - 100%
Biome immersion changes (buffs, icons, messages, descriptions) - 100%?
Bug fixes - As normal

2.5 will be also getting:
Smells - 90%? (feedback, balance)
Apiary - 80%?
New Frostclaw and Plague Spitter models - 70%?

2.5 or 2.6 may get:
3rd person camera - 80%?
Chicken coop - 30%?
Weather survival additions (temperature, wetness, etc) - ?
Misc stuff

Wow. Cool…. After you said that you would want that camera to work well with ladders I figured it would take a while longer. I tried it a little bit about a week ago but couldn’t figure out for the life of me if I was supposed to use the reticle or the visual animation in order to aim and hit my targets. Neither way seemed to work most of the time so I would always switch back to first person for fighting. Ladders were also a situation where I would switch back to first person.

Very nice post @faatal

Thank you for keeping us up to date on progress.

Tom is sorting out those edge case issues, but it seems close.

I'm pretty sure that's wrong, but I don't think IzPrebuilt is being disingenuous, just confused. Or perhaps I am the one who is confused.
He'll twist anything to try and crap on TFP at this point. I went to watch the vid you are referencing and the first few seconds is him talking about the current steam rating and Blood Moons not being popular. For a video titled "EVERYTHING We Know About 3.0 So FAR", that seems to be an odd way to start it. Dude just needs to move on and cut his losses. Always funny to see how disconnected most content creators are from the actual state of the game considering how much they play it. Makes you think maybe they aren't the best ones to be voices for the community since they can be so oblivious.

@faatal any chance you can tell people bandits is 3+ years away from the original 1.0 release so they stop asking and begging for them
why would anyone care how long they are from the original 1.0 release? Why start the clock from a year and a half ago? who cares about 1.0 when we are on version 2.4?

Bandits are likely to be released anywhere from about 6 months to a year from right now. But here’s some good news for you:

Thanksgiving is going to be here in a little under 7 months from six months ago…

It's chicken Co-Op, so chicken PVE? 😁 Kidding!
Feral chickens/roosters when?

Would love to see that and go to the dead rooster and getting mauled and I'll yell

"They are wiping the Cocks out!!!"

well...they MIGHT care because the road map came with dates.

Sure...sure....sure. But this is Grandpa Minion and he knows the dates are all garbage now and have been for almost 11 months now. He also has his strange shtick of claiming bandits are impossible and millions of people just want bug fixes for PVP issues rather than new PVE content. None of that explains the weird practice of saying something is coming in 3 years from a year and a half ago especially since bandits were never announced for 1.0. Nobody expected them at that point.

But I guess it's possible you'll answer me with a possible explanation in about 485 minutes from about 470 minutes ago...

Bingo!
The thing that bothers me the most though is when they set a roadmap that isn't obtained...
than admins, forum moderators, server owners are stuck explaining to their populations for months on end why bandits haven't come or when they will come? Things would be so much easier if they just came out and told people the facts why they haven't been added and a realistic time line for it to happen.

Thank you. This is mostly what I thought (at least regarding 2.x vs. 3.0).

I was mainly asking because this information isn't posted anywhere that is easy to find. (Page 265 of a forum thread is not something I consider "easy to find.")

For example, it's not in the first post of this thread, which lists the planned features for version 2. It's also (obviously) not on the roadmap image. On Twitter, when the pictures of upcoming assets are posted (like the apiary), it's usually just "coming soon."

This is why I don't think IzPrebuilt was being lazy, or disingenuous. Given that it's difficult to find information saying that these things are coming in 2.x, why wouldn't he be inclined to think they're 3.0 features?

Obviously this also isn't any kind of deception on the part of TFP. It's just "under-communicated."

Maybe there should be a new "2.x dev diary" thread for the upcoming 2.x features? That would probably help a lot.
