PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

The Native American design they showed was the new Plague Spitter.

They did also say during the stream that most of the bandits would be Native Americans.

I'm fine with the PS being a Native American, since the design isn't a stereotype. But having most/all of the bandits is kind of a red flag. They can and should be more mixed - some Caucasian, some African-American, some Native, etc etc.
None of the 6 bandit models that I saw today, from one of our artists, look Native American. They look like dirty primitive dudes out of Road Warrior, but none of that is finished and more will be added and there may be others I have not yet seen.

out of all the post i have read on this remake forum, the forum prior to that forum, and the forum prior to the one before that forum over the years...
i can never recall anyone talking about making quests blow up the prefabs on the map.
who ever thought of that is sure not reading any of the forums.
LOL. Most game developers are not sitting around reading forums for their ideas. They have plenty of their own. Ideas are cheap and everyone has some. The hard part is finding the good ones that most of a team can agree upon and then doing them. We have been talking about a blow up a building quest for years. I like explosions. It comes natural. I did not need anyone telling me it would be cool to blow something up.

Prey, back in 2006, had a Native American as the player character (not real current, I know).
Prey is the game I am currently playing! Have had it for many years, tried twice, but never even made it half way. Started it again a few weeks ago and am maybe at the half way point this time.

That Frost Claw animation where he picks up the bolder and throws at you is fantastic and I'm sad to see it go. The people who did that work are amazing.
Lets not be crazy! I did a lot of work on that boulder throw and it will still be in there. Only the model is changing. Same with Plague Spitter. He will still be spitting.

Ive been playing this game since A4......the game has now progressed to a NON survival game with less and less sand box play. the theme seems to be that you can play our sandbox game but you have to play the way we want you too. Less choices, less individualism which means less fun. The biome smoothies have to be one of the dumbest ideas along with badges. Learn by doing was so much more fun....all you had to do was raise the limits to 300 or 1000. Instead we get the book system...read the same book 100 times ?? Isnt that learn by doing?? bring back the old systems, armor and content that made the game fun. Its too scripted now and not as exciting and fun. Bandits..are they ever coming?? Its been like 5 years!! Plague spitters and Yetis now.....Really?? Are ghosts next?? No offense but the iterations of this game have gone from great... too what are you doing??.....the earlier versions were exciting and challenging and had a hell of alot more content!! Love all the pois but you need to bring back the BEEs and the honeycombs along with explosive barrels. The fun we had with them!! Bring back Rivers and jars!! Just bring back survival!! It was supposed to be a game that had a little of everything...now it just seems like you're bored. Just my opinion...

The Huenink Brothers and Lathan probably shouldn't have said they were all Native American during the town hall, then! XD

Probably my favorite thing about the original Prey was that they actually got the late great Art Bell (Coast to Coast AM) to do the voice work for the radio call-in show that you hear throughout the game. RIP, Art.

The Native American aspect was discussed in length in another thread.
From the existing but currently unused trader voice lines in the game, Jen and Joel speak more favorably of Noah, Rekt and Hugh speak more favorably of the Duke and Bob doesn’t like either.

Neither side comes across as the overt bad guys or good guys…just like in real life.

As for the current plague spitter, the model makes perfect sense as a person that was living out in the desert and died. There’s nothing fantasy looking about him.

But the Yeti looks like a lot of other fantasy creatures that exist throughout fiction and nothing I’ve ever seen in zombie fiction…even from the more outlandish movies/shows, etc. The mutated zombie is one thing, but to see the Frost Claw as an experiment on a human is a stretch. It’s something I’d expect more from a modder than TFP.

And here’s a free suggestion for the new plague spitter…look up the beehive head zombie from Walking Dead World Beyond.
You’re welcome.

You mean like trees and crops growing overnight? How about the insane amount of gear in your backpack?

Glad I've got room in my back pocket for that Rocket launcher and Crossbow!
Yeah, pretty much. People are willing to suspend their disbelief for so many other things in the game, but they act as if the glass jar removal was a bridge too far (or somehow unique with its lack of realism). I think they just miss how they trivialized glue production and thirst.

In a stream for a previous alpha, they showed a kind of paramilitary armored guy with what looked like a combination welder's mask and SWAT helmet. Is he still being developed?

Regardless, I am very glad that TFP are not turning this into a game where every other live human we kill is Native American. I will not say anything more about that, except thank you.

The new Native American "plague spitter" (whatever it will be called) looks OK, and I am looking forward to the lumberjack type that is replacing the Frostclaw. I know I was not alone in thinking that a werewolf is out of place in a zombie game.

Nice. But you disregard black zds, asian zds, stereotypical muscleheads , stereotypical jar heads, sexy nurses (currently hot assistant nurses), fat guys (body shame, ain' it?) and stripper zombies. I feel offended now, I hope TFP make the new entities THE WAY I want or else I will thoroughly dislike and unsuscribe. With rage, and slippers. They must contemplate every sensitivity and turn the game and these forums into a political and severely mature talk about values and "correct" topics and dress properly like "normal" people while they are at it.
Make it an option on the New game menu:
BS: ON/OFF.
I do sometimes want Jen to cut to the chase with me in game, but now... I can't. Because of you, khzmusik.

Edit: The stream was cool though. I didn't get the hat as I watched it bia other recordings because of Time zone and all that. I do wish the hat becomes a paid dlc, maybe along with other cosmetics or items? Shivering Islands DlC sizes are the good stuff too.... why shy from that ? Maybe after 5.0.....

This is not the place for this conversation. I only wanted to thank the devs for what they are doing, and I wanted to specifically respond to a developer about it.

If your post is moved somewhere else then I will respond to it, but not here.

Or, if you want to reply personally, we can have a conversation in private. Your choice.

He will be called... Drum Roll... The Plague Spitter.
As for the Dire Wolf, the old one was fine and looked more like the real thing, but this new one is way cooler and scarier. If we can have a Grace, we can have a (mutated) Dire Wolf too.

I was referring to the Frostclaw as a werewolf, not the DIre Wolf.

I love the DIre Wolf. Except that it sounds too much like a dog, and not enough like a monster. :) But that's easy enough to change in the XML.

Balancing wise, I'm not sure how I feel about finding 2 legendary parts in a T1 wood crate within the first few days of the forest biome? The same feelings might extend to them being found in T2 leather trunk main loot containers. Thoughts, anyone?

I feel like I've noticed a much lower quantity of legendary parts in 2.0 vs 1.0. I think in my most-recent 2.0 playthrough I found my first single legendary part on like day 11? I can't remember what day it was exactly, but I remember thinking, "wow, it sure did take a while for me to find one of these". In 1.0 I'd have tons much earlier, iirc.

Wait until you complete the Wasteland Treasures book set. You'll be swimming up to your neck in them, I'm sure. I ended up with 30-odd unused legendary parts in my last playthrough.

I think for a lot of these pitchfork wielders, the jars complaint is just a war chant they parrot off of one another and little more. That's just my unfounded speculation, though.

Personally speaking, I'm completely 50/50 neutral on the whole thing. Dew collectors, jars, don't care. I'm just happy the former are no longer basically trader exclusive since 1.0, though. (As a minor suggestion, perhaps the chance of finding the appropriate mods could be upped in the broken dew collectors? Also, why does the water filter mod cost half as much as a crucible anyway?)
