PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

You do know he's not the only one developing the game, do you?  :confused2:

I mean, he's got a HUGE role for the coding part, but let's not forget about the other HUGE amount of work everybody else does @tfp.

I would think the thank you to him is because he seems to be the one that responds to the posts on the forum.

Am pretty sure other devs have been thanked when they made an appearance before.

IIRC Madmole was thanked at times back in the day when he use to come here.

@faatal any more performance updates to 2.0? Particularly ones that will allow more zombies on horde night?

I like how we can control the amount of zombies for the last several betas, I feel it’s near impossible to have a large amount that don’t all arrive in a small time window and having them all arrive at once makes the game play as a slide show.

Ideally I’d like a steady continuous stream of zombies over the entire night.

Faatal - Here's the question. Do you plan to add new zombie attack mechanics? Well, right now I see the following:

Almost all zombies attack the same way in close combat and most of them, in my opinion, differ only visually
Zombie cop - separate mechanics of self-detonation and spitting (in general, not very dangerous, but if you do not have time to dodge, you can get a good one)
Mutant - throws spit around himself spit (in my opinion, more of a decorative mechanic since it almost does not cause damage or interferes with the player)

Spider - jumps and bends down (this is just a unique mechanic that forces you to change your position and dodge)

Demolitionist - also a cool mechanic that breaks bases and makes players come up with new killboxes

That's basically it. But after 10-15 hours of play, this is not particularly surprising and killing turns into a routine. I want more new mechanics and challenges.

Well, as an example, add the bull mechanic: That is, the zombie gets enraged and quickly runs in a straight line towards the player. And either does a lot of damage to the player or to the block it crashes into.

HUGE thanks for the new zombie difficulty. After level 50-100, the current radioactive ones stop feeling at all.

Now I am playing the first 20-30 hours of the game with great delight (the initial stage). But as soon as the player gets a tier 3 weapon, the game becomes much easier and everything comes down to a banal run and shoot (That is, just complete tier 6 quests and wait for the red night, even on the highest difficulty). This quickly gets boring, and to be honest, there is no motivation to get more than level 150 (BUT I will say right away that this is just my perception of the game)

Are you planning to develop activities at the late stage of the game, and if so, which ones?

In any case, a huge thank you for the game. I think if you add a little more activities in the middle and late stages, the game will have no equal. Looking forward to 2.0

So just to add to this and based on Faatal's response, I think The Fun Pimps are pretty much sunsetting this game, there isn't going to be anything wild and interesting added other than the features that were promised according to the Road Map. Bandits, Quest Reworks, etc... So I wouldn't expect anything significant to change with the game, they want to move on to Seven Days to Die 2 or whatever it is, and eventually just let the modders take over this community for good.

The trickle mechanic they added was supposed to keep zombies coming all night, but if you can kill them quickly enough, you can still end the night early.  The way to make them last all night is to add 1+ additional waves of zombies.  This can be done with mods very easily, but could probably be added to vanilla.  I don't think you will see more zombies at a time going forward, though.  They aren't likely to improve performance enough at this point to handle that on XBox Series S.  They could add back the option to have larger hordes again that they removed so that those who can handle them can still have them.  Not sure why that was removed instead of just getting another setting for increasing horde difficulty if you have it set to be more than X zombies (30 right now).

Personally, I've never had a problem with FPS drops during horde night, even with full party causing a LOT of zombies at once back before this changes to spawn limits.  And I'm using an older computer.  I know some people do have problems even with better hardware, which leads me to think it's an issue specific to certain hardware or hardware combinations, regardless how good the hardware is.  But who knows?

It's such a shame if it'd that's the case cuz the game needs more and sadly console won't have mod support. And to add on

.who knows how long it will be till 7 days 2

Cuz so many things that modders have done could be done by TFP by ether hiring them (granted they are a small crew so I doubt that)

And the game just needs so much more

And to think that you had a PC, but instead of upgrading it (or buying a new one maybe?), you bought a console (even 2 consoles if I remember correctly as you said you were giving one to somebody).

You keep talking about mods that you would want in the main game, only because you know you won't get mods on console.

Sorry Adam, but you made a bad decision and should have stayed on PC.

I still got it but it doesn't work and plus having a console is nice after a long day of work just boot and play near instantly.

I'm not going to upgrade to the next console gen instead I'm saving up to get a good pc. Ima just use my old pc as a base and mod it out from there. See what parts I can spare Which problem isn't many?

My post wasn't to knock other devs who don't come on as much as faatal.

It was just to say that thank yous are just a nice way to say thanks for coming on and keeping us informed.

If it is the dev you see most or who happens to answer your question then that is all it means.

Depending on the age, you are right... probably not many.  The case, keyboard, and mouse would be fine unless you wanted different ones.  The hard drive is probably good, but depending on size and if it is SSD may mean you should get another even if you keep using that one.  The power supply may be fine unless you want a really good GPU, and then you may need one with more wattage.  And RAM might be okay if it was good speed, but you will probably want more and it is usually just easiest to buy them in 2 packs and replace them together, plus you won't want different RAM paired together.  GPU and CPU are definitely going to need relaxed, and if you replace the CPU, you are going to replace the motherboard because newer CPUs won't likely fit your current motherboard.  The last thing is your monitor.  That doesn't need replaced unless you want a better one.  In the end, you will mostly have an entirely new computer.  But once you do that, you can upgrade parts every couple of years and only do one or two at a time and keep the computer upgraded to run anything without spending much money.  At least as long as you aren't buying the top of the line stuff each time.

I don't quite understand the essence of the comment) Expressing my gratitude, I mean the entire TFP team. I understand perfectly well that the game is being developed by a team, but in this particular thread, it is Faatal who speaks on behalf of the team.

Based on my experience and observations of many players, each player who fell in love with this project went through +/- this path:
Install the game and play vanilla > want more content and discover the world of mods > want more company and learn about large servers or gather friends on a local network > and then wait for new features from the developers and modders.

To be honest, I don't really believe that the project will be able to take off on consoles (in current configurations) similar to the game on PC. There are very few vanilla servers and mods are basically unavailable. I will be glad if I am wrong about this.

However, I see great potential in the PC gaming community. I never cease to be glad that the developers have not abandoned the project after so many years and have at least some kind of roadmap. I think that the developers have already given a huge set of tools for creating much more content. But unfortunately, large projects with complex mods and their balance among themselves, there are only a few of them. And I really hope that new versions of the game will be able to attract new modders or bring back the old ones.

In any case, having written a small set of mods, I began to understand much more about the titanic amount of work that TFP has already done. And I say thank you to the whole team.

And if we talk about painful questions, I have one more, please. In my opinion (I may be wrong), but the current balance of armor is quite weak and many sets are simply almost never used.

@фатальныйWill there be any balance changes in 2.0 concerning armor? And is the return of dyes for armor elements planned?

on xbox series X - If i delete a player profile that's 30 days old or older in efforts to clean up a vast of players who join, play for 1 or 2 days and never return - what happens to their land claim, building, chests, etc ?  some all get wiped also, or does the land claim disassociate with the player and allows others to freely destroy it? does loot in the chests remain, or poof along with the box itself?
