WalkerSim 2 (Beta)

The one thing I need to figure out now is why the world is desolate. No zombies around besides the sleeper ones. I wonder if it's something related to co-op or if I need to use a bigger MaxAgents number.

Also, do we need Enemy Spawning setting to off or it doesn't matter? -- I've seen it mentioned somewhere and I was wondering.

Thanks for the fast reply, but for co-op only the host needs to install this, not all clients? That doesn't sound right.

EDIT: Wow, this is taking forever to load on default settings. 30+ minutes. Co-op buddies will not agree to this.
Only the host/server needs this mod, the server is the thing that spawns/despawns them so the client doesn't need to be aware to how thats done.

Can't edit the post above anymore so here's the follow-up. The loading issue was because of another mod, this one loaded fairly quickly, no issues there. Turning off enemy spawning will probably disable the mod as it still asks for permissions before spawning a zombie.

I hate to be that guy, but how/where do I install this?
Unpack the folder from the archive to "<path_to_7daystodie>/Mods", example: "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\7 Days To Die\Mods".

 
So this is what I have so far with the debug, but there are no zombies anywhere, it's desolate. Loud sounds, like firing the guns doesn't do anything either. I wonder what I'm doing wrong.

I am running 7 Days to Die without EAC on Windows 11 and created an exception for the mod folder in my Antivirus software.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Do you have any other mods that could conflict? Also make sure that Enemy Spawning is enabled, if any zombie spawns or despawns from WalkerSim it will log it to the console, so keep an eye out for that as well.

 
Okay, more testing to report. I have MaxAgents at 600.000 and I guess it was reflecting that because I did see an increase in zombie count when I was playing alone, but as soon as a friend joined in co-op, everything got quiet, not a zombies to be found anywhere besides the sleepers. I tested this with the mod installed on each client and also the host only, no change.

So in conclusion it seems to be working okay for single player, but not co-op.

Looks like a potential bug in the despawning logic, also damn at those numbers everyone uses, anything more than 30k is absolutely insane. I'll have to see whats going on with more players, I have a few other things going on at the moment so this might take a while.

Used 600.000 for testing purposes only because anything less didn't do anything. Definitely not viable for long term because loading times get insane. Thanks for the support, and looking forward to future versions, whenever those drop.

We put it at the max of 30k, and honestly there's more zombies in the vanilla game. There's nothing, definitely not like in the video.

And I think it affected the single-player now as well.

So either it's not working or 30k limit is too low to tell. Is it possible to increate the max limit?

EDIT: Another thing we noticed is that whatever zombies do spawn, they don't react to gun sounds at all. They don't turn around to face you.

I will have to look into it, as for just raising the maximum limit I have to keep the simulation performance in mind so I can't just allow any arbitrary number here it also needs more memory. 


Tried it today on a dedicated server with same results. So it's currently bugged (beta 1 and 2) and not working in multiplayer or co-op.

I don't control that, that comes from entitygroups.xml

I debugged it a bit today and found a few things, I will post a new version the next few days.

 
There is indeed no spawning happening whatsoever when running only this mod on a dedicated server.

I do see some messages from this in the console, but those are only the initial load and the adding/removing of the player thing.

I connected, walked around for a while and then disconnected. There is nothing between these 2 events other than adding and removing the player to walkersim. 

I also tried disabling the pause if no player is online just to test, but to no avail.

If I run this mod in singleplayer it works and the console does indeed show zombies being spawned and despawned by walkersim.

PS: You can't use the walkersim show command in multiplayer and thus can't verify if there's actually a simulation going at all. But I assume that's normal behaviour since server/client stuff is not part of the mod interaction.

I've tried it out by walking in a straight line through a city that on singleplayer is has plenty spawn with the mod. But on the dedicated multiplayer server with a completely fresh save nothing spawns. No log outputs about spawning either.

Do note that due to dedicated this is hosted on a server and thus there's no host player.
There are only client players.
