Ok, but is it ok if someone uses a ladder or a ramp to do the same thing?
Yeah I know. That's why I'm requesting loot helper groups that can randomize which loot helpers will spawn in a POI, and thus leaving players guessing where it might be, instead of weird things to eliminate nerd poling.

Totally agree with that, I'd love to see more randomized loot rooms.   Still doesn't really explain the nerd pole hating, there must be more to it than that.

Yes, that would be the realism you mentioned before... for some people anyway.
It seems you don't have a problem with it.... I'd love to hear from someone who does and see why the unrealistic nature of nerd poling is a problem, but, for example, carrying 100 wooden frames is not a problem.

People will use this magical word called "Immersion" whenever it suits their cause in order to try to convince people that they are smart and know what they are talking about.  Its like using the words synergy, touchpoint, or core competency in business.

What they don't realize is that immersion is a lie.. its a video game and you slam on your mouse and keyboard to kill zombies and build megacastles with clicks of buttons.

Yeah, pretty much what I thought.    Over the years I've heard many complaints about nerd poling..... I just figured I'd finally ask what the problem with it was.   It doesn't seem like the problem people have with it would hold up under scrutiny.

One of the things I like about playing a miner build is just doing POIs totally wrong for fun.

I just start where I feel like and knock holes all over the place.

It is extra fun when you are a duo and the other guy is like, "did you just knock a hole in the wall, right next to a unlocked door?"... and I am like, "Oh, you are right", then I break the unlocked door as well.

yeah...k

I think that you think breathing is op..

As soon as more than 3 pile up they go around each other and would hit the corner and come marching in.
It wasn't me who brought up "20-30 high level zombies" and is now changing his story to only 3. It is so easy to shoot down arguments when they are made with exaggerated numbers.

>People still talking about nerd poling
There's been a few other things brought up and discussed. Castle building, rng griping, traders not being in sync with found loot (known wip, but some are newer here than I or hadn't been on the forums for awhile so they brought it up), grumping about zombies (bloodmoon, feral, block damage, etc.), a few bugs/glitches/exploits got brought up and are either being looked at, been dealt with or are on a side burner till they can be dealt with, if ever (life is life, the intention is probably there to knock the bugs out when they can, but she can be a cruel mistress). The anti-nerdpole crusade just hung around and kept ranting for the most part (though STyK did catch and bring up a bug that'll probably be dealt with if it hasn't already been).

whatever. was just pointing out that would hash out if it's a exploit or not really quick.

Around here, it's sometimes called "emersion," but that might only apply to swimming zombies.
yeah I think the swimming zom's is broken.

It's a fantasy game based on movie monsters, but still..

no other media that i'm aware of has ever had SWIMMING zombies..

It's op, and immersion breaking for sure.

I know tons of LIVING people that can't swim.. And these undead corpses can do it faster than a athlete...

It's mostly used when the person doesn't have a compelling argument and they just want to back the other person into a corner. Also, it's a buzzword. Besides, if a person is worried about x thing that is breaking their "immersion", there's thousands of other games that they are failing to recognize that is also breaking their "immersion", but all too often said person will just write those things off as "off topic". (Not pointing any fingers here, just talking in general.)

*examples, not games

He works for Cirque du Solei. It’s really the only way...
I sure as heck can't jump a meter straight up while carrying 1 cubic meter frames made of wood or iron 2x2s or that much 1/2" rebar shaped into a box. Much less do so and stack them under me. Thankfully its a game and not irl. (Heck, my 300lb+ fat @%$*#! would probably shatter or bend the frames when I landed, not to mention what it'd do to my ankles) 🤣

Not likely to change much. Way too expensive checking line of sight to all the potential blocks you could see.
I'm certainly going to keep some hope, but definately understand the expense of checking LoS on that many volumes. Possibly something that can be offloaded to a client and just check one each update? Client reports back an unspawned zombie that should be visible, server validates and spawns? Spitballing ideas based on a good bit of unity experience, but obviously no knowledge of 7 days specific architecture.

When I fall into a trap, I always nerd pole out of it.

When I make a base, I always build a ladder down to bedrock where I store my stuff. I can’t do it all in one night, so I always nerd pole back up through the hole and do the walls of the tunnel down and the ladders the next couple of nights.

Depending on how quickly I find treasure, I might nerd pole out of that hole... or if I haven’t found it yet but I hear a wandering horde or dogs coming.

The tops of light posts have steel. I nerd pole to harvest that. It would be pretty weird to build a staircase for that.

If these situations were irl, rope would probably be involved in some way, but we don’t have rope.

Some people even think it's 'takes balls' to play a video game on a harder difficulty than default and in doing so, it makes them 'brave'.
